I have a 98 Windstar with a big histroy and just bought a 01 Windstar in Sept. I just got back from a trip and put 1200 miles on the 01. On my way to my destination the van was running smooth etc. (Highway) At my destination (city) i noticed what felt like rough/sluggish shifting. I took my van to get oil change and tranny flush. (The van has a well maintained history). After the tranny flush i noticed almost no difference. Got back on the road to come home and noticed that the shift got worse. I disengaged the OD and seemed to have run better but still sluggish. A couple of times the check engine light would come on flashing the would go out when smooth. Possible misfire. After about 250 miles of being paronoid the van wasnt going to make it the van conditions seemed to have gradully begun to get better. The check eingine light came on and stayed on until today. I went out and started it so i could go pull the codes and the light went out so unfortunatley i have no codes. Now the van seems fine. What may have cause this?? Water in gas??

there may be some tranny codes set in the pcm but your scanner may not "see" them. I don't know what type of scanner you have but the hand-held type likely won't do it. I'd be watching closely and see if the condition continues. Maybe getting the van scanned at a local trans place would be in order.

Other thread posts have suggested this may be cause by a bad transmission range sensor, or you're not getting good voltage caused by the alternator, the battery or both. See thread on brake fluid here in the Windstar forum. It talks about the TRS.

Well I have a p0303 code and only this code. I changed plugs and moved cyl 3 fuel injector, still p0303. Could coil pack problems cause a misfire in just 1 cyl? i guess replacing the wires is in order but im lost from here on out any sugesstions?

My coil went bad on mine a while back.. That could be the problem.. I have a 2001. I would also check the wires..
