help no heat...everyone read need input.thanxs

hey all

help my wifes 06 impala doesnt blow heat. it will blow heat if you drive it down the hiway at high speeds. but if you let off the gas the heat cools down. and if its idling it blows cold air.

antifreeze level is up.

would it be the thermostat?
if so where is it. pics or service manual would be great.

any help would be greatly appreciated as it is -40 here right now. and i have a very cold wife(colder than usual)

What size engine and model ?

What is the reading on the temp. gage, lower than normal, higher than normal, ( Thermostat, Low coolant) ?

Does she smell coolant inside the vehicle ?
Is there a film on the inside of the windshield, ( HEATER CORE) ?

Being extremely CAREFUL, place heat selector to full heat, check heater hoses at heater control valve. If one is hot and one is cool, ( Heater Control Valve).

As to the location of afore mentioned parts unknown until I know the engine size.

srry the engine is a 3.5 l impala lt
the temp gauge reads normal
no coolant smell or film on the windsheild.
checked the heater hoses one is hot and one is just warm
coolanat is full.
is the heater control valve under the dash?i see no valve under the hood.

It is best to keep the wife hot....the coolant may be dirty...did you use the dexcool approved coolant?

both hoses should be hot and if one is hot this is usually a plugged heater core...because your vehicle is new I would suspect a contaminated system....bad water or the wrong coolant used...

coolant must have GM approved dexcool on it....if not it is big trouble for you...

yes dexcool was used always.
i really hope its not the heater core thats alot of work to take out

If there is no coolant smell, film on the windshield, or wetness to the floor boards carpet, I would lean toward the control valve. Either the valve itself or the control assy. So far I have not been able to find anything concerning a Service Bulletin regarding the heater controls.

There is always the possibility of a partially plugged heater core. This can be flushed at home using a garden hose. Given your outside ambient temperature though this may be a challenge.

As to the location of your control valve, sorry, still can not find it.

there is no valve there. It is a temp controlling door motor. but both hoses must be hot..heater core must be cleaned....if one hose has heat..

if both hoses are hot then it may be the temp control motor/door sticking..
