ABS Light On. Are codes in computer?

My 2000 SEL ABS light and Traction Control Inactive light come on periodically. Turning off the ignition will reset the lights until they come on again. My question is, are there codes stored in the computer for the problem that is occurring? The 'Check Engine' light does not come on, so are ABS codes still accessible using a standard ODBII scan tool plugged in under the dash? I don't have a scanner, but I would get one if the codes for ABS can be retrieved. Thanks.

Yes the ABS codes are store in the computer however the OBD II readers will not retreived these code. ABS code readers are available but they are really costly compare to the OBD II readers.

Like catvents said the inexpensive code readers do not read the ABS and Airbag codes. I have a (borrowing, hopefully soon to be mine) SnapOn scanner. This thing is VERY COOL! It will read ABS AB and the P codes. Another thing it will tell you which door switch is keeping the dome light on so you don't have to guess. I'm sure I don't know the full abilities of this scanner. The manuals are thick.

The SnapOn scanner plugs into the same plug under the dash by the driver.

Ok, thanks for the info. I will take it to a shop and have them diagnose the issue.
