So, my question is... is the Astra just a new name for an old model, a Saturn replica of something else GM or something else entirely?
I've heard tales that it's actually an Opel that was brought over under the GM umbrella of Saturn. Any truth?
Sadly, I'm actually very seriously considering buying one. Any help would be appreciated. :)

It is a rebadged Opel model . Don't let that scare you - Opel makes great cars ! The Astra should be an improvement over previous models .:2cents:

Thanks for the :2cents: I was beginning to wonder if anyone would even spot the thread since there's no forum. LOL
I guess a lot of my concern comes from the latest begging from the Big 3 to get financial bailouts... Plus a general ideology that the late model Jap cars are stronger as far as reliability and longevity. I've personally only ever owned Japanese-badged vehicles, and I get anxious about going back to American made (a sad statement that I have to beware US products).
It's just that with the economy where it stands, I can lower my monthly auto payment (although I'll owe another 5 years instead of 1.5). Overall I like the fit and finish - minus the turn signals... wtf were they thinking? Plus the fuel economy is better than I'm getting with AWD. ;)
