Rear Brakes Squeak - solution?

Folks,

I posted a while back about squeaky rear brakes, especially in the morning when I am backing out of the driveway and come to a stop. Initially, I thought it was glazing and so I removed a small layer off the drum shoes and it helped for a couple of months but then the sound returned.

Well, recently, on my winnie's 5 yr anniversary, I decided to flush the brake fluid and put in a new batch. One of the unintended consequence is that the noise in the morning has ceased.

One of my theories is that with the brake fluid worn and perhaps with some minor bubbles, it was not engaging the brake shoes properly thus leading to the squeak. But now that the fluid has been flushed and the fluid is fresh, it is able to engage my brake shoes fully thus leading to no squeak. I will keep y'll posted to see how long this lasts.

I have had this rear brake squeak in the morning for about 3 yrs but now it's gone.

brakes will squeak in the morning due to overnight rust that happens in humid conditions. Usually gets rubbed off in the first few miles/stops. I don't know if this could be a contributing factor or not. Maybe the fluid flush is just coincidental?

Another cause of brake squeak, especially drum brakes, is the shoe rubbing against the backing plate where the hold down spring comes through. A LIGHT coat of moly grease will fix the issue if that's the cause.
