rough idle after restart

I have 98 Windstar with 160K mile. It runs OK considering the mileage. Recently it started rough idle problem when the car is re-started after complete warm up.
For example, I start the car in the morning, drive around several miles, turn it off and restart a few minutes later, then the idle is rough. The rough idle disappear after ~30 seconds. The ignition system is all original except spark plugs. - Sam

Are you going through coolant?

I'm thinking of a few problems that could cause this. Leaky fuel injectors or if you are going through coolant it may be the lower intake gaskets causing a puddle of coolant in the head and thus causing a rough idle.

Thanks for the reply.
There is no loss of coolant. It went through a gasket replacement at ~100K (I believe it was the upper one).

I have a very similar problem. I also had it earlier, but it dissappeared after I had the transmssion serviced (removed/replaced). It also started when the same service was performed at an earlier date.

The first time I had this there was also a gurgling sound coming from the fuel tank, but I don't hear that this time. I got to the point that when I turn the key to ON (but not start) I'd listen for the gurggling, and if I heard it I would cycle the key on/off (waiting for the noise to stop each time) until I could turn the key to on without hearing the noise. Then the car would run fine.

I have not tried that this time, but I plan to at my next chance. In my case, it only misfires if the engine is off for the right amount of time.. a few seconds is too short, and an hour is too long. A fuel stop (10 - 15 minutes) seems to be in the right range of time to create the problem.

I have been having that exact same problem with my 2002 for that past few weeks. I did the intake gasket routine about 3 months ago and its been running fine up until this. Every time it idles rough I'm always looking for the CEL to come on but it never does.

My wife has noticed that the gurgling sound can be heard when the misfire condition occurs. When she noticed the misfire this time, she turned off the engine and heard the sound with the key in the "RUN" position.
