96 Power Steering leak when parked

96 Sable, 87k miles, recent power steering pump replacement.

When I drive it during the week to work, I get no overnight fluid leakage. When it is parked over the weekend, I get some drips after a day. Over filled? Leak coming from under carriage mid between wheels close to transmission cover. Could this be trans fluid?

Thanks!

What color is the fluid?

It is a reddish fluid. Transmission right? If so, why does it take 24 hours or more to leak?

More than likely the tranny, but it could also be power steering fluid as that could be red (tranny fluid) too. With regard to why it takes 24 hours...I will not guess on.

Tranny:
If you haven't done it, check the level immediately and top off if necessary. Next, ID where the leak is..I would look to the two transmission radiator lines first..probably the easiest to ID as a source of leakage. If not those lines... IDing the exact leak without bringing it to a shop will be a problem. Remember...a leaky tranny is a $2.5K tranny job waiting to happen...best nip it in the bud.

Power Steering:
Try checking for a leaky line or reservoir.

take off the dust shield under the front bumber. Its a pain in the neck with about 20 screws but it covers the hoses that lead to the power steering filter and cooler. all the hoses have hose clamps on them and maybe leaking. I actually just noticed this the other day on my car when I took the shield off to fush my radiator. You will probably also see the red oil all over the shield too as it covers the hoses.
