 I had to take my 2001 Cruiser to the dealer to get the airbag light delt with. They said the crash sensor was bad and would cost $468 to replace. It took 4 days for them to get it from the warehouse and now they say it must be the airbag module which run the total to $963. This sounds like "parts replacement" type repair to me(at my expence). They said they had to replace the first part before the other one would show up. Don't those code readers tell what part is bad without having to guess? How far will this go?

I would agree with you; they are feeding you a line. They cannot diagnose the problem properly and are expecting you to pay for their lack of expertise. IMO it's not likely that BOTH components are bad, so why are they expecting you to pay for this?
IMO raise hell about this. Refuse to pay for the sensor if they are telling you now that its the module. Tell them to put the old sensor back if necessary. Chances are they will at least discount the cost of the sensor, or eliminate it, but only if you raise sufficient fuss about it.
