Well the lead singer for the Dixie Chicks snubbed President Bush. Of course now she apologizes but its to late. Tonight all over Texas as well as alot of the US country music fans have destroyed their CD's. See while she can speak her mind she has lost tons of devoted fans. I happily burned the CD's I had of theirs as well as called into my local radio station who will no longer play their music. God I love democracy. Speak your voice but when you piss off the majority here in the US you get it back in your face. I wonder how her fellow band members feel about the bitch now

Did you remember to burn some books as well?Seriously, that is just plain ridiculous.Either the music is worth listening to,or it is not.The same critera apply to musicians as to plumbers or any other tradespeople..If you are only prepared to listen to artists who are of the same political persuasion as yourself, you are going to end up with a very, very, narrow music collection.

Well Tar we both have our view points however yours is from a long distance. You don't live here in the US nor do you have any idea of what is really felt here at home. You read a few newspapers or online sources which can be very biased. Unless you are actually here to talk to people then you don't know how we feel. Different opinions are fine but lets base them on something other then what can only be read.

Please, don't pretend that every American wants a war as badly as you seem to.I spend enough time talking to my American friends to know that that simply isn't the case.I read a few papers, and a few online sources, and I talk to a lot of people. Some are from America, some are from Britain, some are from New Zealand, some are from Australia.
Can you honestly say that you actually read a balanced mix of media,or do you treat your media as you treat your music, and only listen to that which doesn't offend your precious blind patriotism?

HEY NOW lets all remember that the dixie chicks sucked to start with. as for what she said. i totaly support her right to say what she did and people shouldnt stop liking the music for it. i may not agree with her views but i will uphold her rights. only in the united states do people uphold ones rights while they would never agree with what they believe. if you are a neo nazi and want to say sumthin in a demonstration you have that right and the police will defend you. and i defend their right to say what they feel no matter how much i disagree with it...

I don't want war. But to be honest Taranaki unless you are an American you don't know what it's like to live here. Just like I don't know what it's like to live in another country. As far as the Dixie Chicks thier like the friggin Britney Spears of country music. No 1 cares to hear what Britney's foriegn policy is just like no 1 cares about what the Dixie chicks is. America is tired of hearing no talent hacks thinking they got Phd's in poly sci.
If you say no one can disagree with the President here your wrong. On channels like CNN/MSNBC for every expert who says Bush is right and we need to goto war, there is one saying he is wrong and we don't need to goto war.
You see the thing about the Dixie chicks and cause you don't live here you don't see all the underlying issues. You don't understand the differences between people from Texas and say people from Mass. It's not your fault you can only make an opinion on what you hear and read.

Sorry I haven't been watching the news or reading the newspaper lately. Busy trying to catch up with school work after being sick for about a week with a flu. But does anyone know what the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks said. I am guessing its about the issue of going to war.

Sometimes it pays to look at situations from an outside perspective.Frankly, the amount of blind patriotism and naked aggression that has been orchestrated to justify this invasion is disgusting. How does the quote go?"you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time.........."

Third-party perspective is usefull when that party is made aware to all the facts as in a situation like arbitration. But to pass judgement on limited information is rather irresponsible. I read how France made a nice oil deal with Iraq. Now is it fair for me to assume the only reason France is saying no to this war is cause they don't want to lose thier oil deal. Australia's made a deal with Iraq, wheat for oil, When their Prime Minister made and albiet quiet agreement with Bush to support him in the war agianst Iraq. When the Australian people found out about this and the people/government went nuts about it. Should I assume the Australian people only car about themselves and thier oil issues. I could so that the amount of pure cowardness and self-serving interest in the rest of the world is pathetic. I'm not saying that but I could if I was not informed of the whole situation.

O.K......So there's no need for the average American to judge Saddam until they've walked a mile in his shoes,Or for me to judge George Bush until I've walked a mile in his shoes....I should I'magine it would be most uncomfortable for me to walk a mile in George's shoes, he seems a lot smaller than me,and yet still he is way too big for his boots.

It matters because the fans are the ones who buy hte albums and if you piss them off, you're poor. Also, I don't want to like people with moronic opinions like theirs. In my eyes, they are no better than the flag-burning, Bush-hating people in Palestine.

Is it just me, or is burning a CD you already paid for and enjoy kind of a dumb way to protest the artist's opinion? If you want to boycott future purchases of thiers, sure, deprive them of your money. It's just like those folks breaking french wine bottles to "protest" Chiracs antics of late... Kind of dumb!

I find people who are strong supporters of the upcoming war as funny... you are blind to the politics and corruption of it. THE WHOLE WORLD IS AGAINST THE WAR, and you still think you are right?
That is the same mentality that psychopaths have - "I am not crazy, everyone else is."
According to a recent survey, less than 15% of Americans know where Iraq is. That is pitiful.

I love how the US constitution has an amendment that gives everyone the right to free speech, yet when someone uses that right they are shit on. why burn a cd you spent money on because the woman spoke her mind? it's stupid. Not everyone likes Bush, and she is one of those who doesnt. What is she supposed to say about the man? Lie and say how much she loves him and stands behind him 100%? Yeah, right. I know Im an American, but dammit, sometimes I think the shit that goes on in this country is so damn retarded. A musicians political opinion does not affect their songs words or what they meant by the song. Someones opinion should be respected, even if it isnt what you might agree with, they shouldnt be hated for what they think.

Personally I don't care for the dixie chicks, I don't care for country music. HELL I have never even heard one of thier songs- but like Mr T said why should thier political opinion influence what you think of thier music. Hey guess what Bush can kiss my ass!!!!!!! Are you going to go around the streets smashing windows of Alfa Romeos and Maserati's now???? No do you know why?? (Aside from the fact they are hard to find in the US;)) because I have a freedom of opinion just like you all do. Hell if Incubus (My favourite band) were running around supporting Bush- I wouldn't think less of thier music- I'd think less of them- but not thier music. What also cracks me up is the silly little rednecks taht run around the internet going

A lot of blindly patriotic Americans with guns all over their house living in a trailer are "rednecks," and I make the same assumption as Mr. T here that most in this class ARE pro-war (mostly because of their lack of knowledge about the world and ignorance, sad but true.). He did not call YOU a redneck, so cool off. Also, don't directly attack AFers.

WHOLE COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD are against this war, and no, they are not minorities in an enthnic or statistical way. I meant to say that 95% of minorities in the U.S. are anti-war because they are brainwashed liberals. I'm having trouble typing this morning.
These other countries in the world don't have to worry about being attacked because they are better by a faceless coward enemy. They didn' have 3,000 of their innocent people killed by terrorists. Why in the hell would we want that to happen again? That is what we are preventing with this war.
The countries that are aginst the war for the most part are jealous of the U.S., and they don't like that we have a Republican,pro-American president.
The only war propaganda in this country is the anti-war sentiment spoken by the liberal media and Hollywood bandwagon jumpers, who by the way are all anti-American.

I do not mean to offend you, let's just get a healthy debate going here.....
What you just said is extremely naive and although you may not realize it, IS the propaganda that Bush administration has been pushing.
Most experts in international politics/relations around the globe agree that Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11. If you don't want that to happen again go after Bin Laden, who oh wow!... is still not found:eek:
The reason Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11, to put in simple terms, is he hates Muslim radicals - he kills them. The reason being, they are as dangerous to him as they are to us - they'd love to see Hussein out of power.
If you think we are going to prevent further terrorist attacks by this war, then you are wrong here again - most experts agree that the chances of increased terrorism due to this war are extremely high and are pretty much for certain, as the war will piss off pretty much every nation in the middle east.
You should read some info on Hussein and his history - he is not a psychopath, he is an extremely intelligent man(idiots can't hold power of a whole nation while being hated by pretty much everyone, including own generals and cabinet). Yes, he is a mofo everyone would love to see die, for all the deaths he has caused in the middle east. But he is not a radical muslim that is willing to die for some 'cause.' He loves his power, and that is what he will try to hold on to no matter what. He has ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO ATTACK THE UNITED STATES, as everyone knows that if he does do it, the following picture demonstrates what will happen to him -
http://www.automotiveforums.com/kris/kris/+junk/UTowned.jpg
Saddam Hussein is not insane, and the people in this business (politics, int'l relations, etc.) around the globe are aware of it, and THAT is why they are against the United States attacking Iraq. Hell, even our own administration knows it.
There are two main reasons that Bush (his administration) wants to go to war however-
1) Personal bittery and revenge kind of thing from the early nineties when Hussein messed with Bush Sr. and his administration, which is composed of the same people that are currently in power - Ashcroft, etc.
2) Oil, yes, it is obvious, and yes something this obvious is not an illusion. If you don't think that Dubya "I love oil and money" Bush isn't going in there for all the oil, then you must be crazy; or you just haven't done enough research to have a clue of what is actually going on.
"I want to get rid of Hussein to ensure our nat'l security" act is just that, an act, because obviously he can't tell the people - "I want to go to war because my father and the administration that ownz me are bitter and want to kick Saddam's ass just because and also, that oil just tastes so good! mmm...mmm...."
And quite a bit of people have fallen for this propaganda here in the US, the government is very good at brainwashing you know.
The people outside the United States have kept their sanity and common sense, but that is also attacked by more gov't propaganda, such as renaming Congress' cafeteria's french fries and french toast to freedom fries and freedom toast - it is so disgustingly ubsurd I get a kick out of it sometimes.
Also, notice that since Dubya got so addicted to these fun games even his daddy made a speech urging his son to NOT go to war, because unlike Jr., Bush Sn. has brains.
Let me see if I can dig this up and then I will post it here.

Unless you have spent time inside GWB's head, this is mearly an assumption. What we as American's should really be pissed about is Congress abdicating it's role in the war powers act.

If you think everyone else's opposition to the war isn't about oil and money, your being naive! France and Germany are trying to protect their fragile economic conditions. If America was sooo hungry for Iraq's oil supply, why didn't we take control of it after Desert Storm? Why have we continued to pass on Iranian oil for 20+ years?

Wow, I know we have our share of idiots in America but when did we all become so susceptable to "propaganda" campaigns? Or, why is it people with an opinion for war are the only ones who have been afflicted? That is along the same lines as the "redneck" comment made ealier, that those who are behind GWB are either easily duped, ill-informed, or ignorant. Labelling only weakens respect for opinions and what forms them. (That goes for calling people "libs" too!)

You have brought up a good point here-
Pro-war propaganda is projected loudly throughout our nation by our government, which in the end, does have unlimited power over anything - look at USA Patriot Act of 2001 if you need confirmation of my statement. This means that everyone in the nation, willing or unwilling, will hear pro-war speeches and media. However, obviously, anti-war voices will be suppressed by the government as much as possible, but a lot still do get out, but it is up to every individual to fetch out the information that supports opposition to war.
You do not need to have initiative to hear pro-war voices, but you do to hear anti-war voices.
And speaking of oh so liberal news sources - that does not seem to be the solid case anymore - yesterday there was a guest on CNN - an actor from Hollywood who is FOR war.

I think that the Dixie Chicks are welcome to say whatever they please. I'm ashamed that Dan Marino is from Pittsburgh, but it doesn't deny the fact that he's damn good at football.
As for Bush... I'm not in the mood to argue about the fact that he can't compose a correct English sentence most of the time let alone deduce what is best for the majority of the U.S. who did not vote for him, lest he forget.

Genuinely- what Igor has said is right on the money. Every day the American population is subjected to the propoganda of the Bush administration- anybody with half a brain can see what he says is B.S. unfortunately, the US has a lacksture education system which generally leaves many of it's citizens without a clue of how foreign affairs and even internal affairs work.
To say that this is about anything other than oil would be kidding yourself- Saddam Hussein poses no threat to the United States- he does not have any weapons capable of mass destruction, hell even with all the sanctions and hardship placed on him by the American government he has not harmed the US or any of it's interests. Saddam is not a psychopath, an extremist or terrorist- he is simply a tin-pot dictator who was put in place by the US in the first place- in fact through business deals (and money-laundering) he has built up a fortune of US$8 billion. The Al Qaeda and other terrorist extremist networks dislike Saddam greatly- as he hates them- in fact he hates thier whole religion- however the people of Iraq are still Muslims the people the terrorists want to liberate- so Bush/Blair bomb the crap out of Iraq- the chances are there will be revenge attacks by these people on US soil- and if that happens then I'll happily tell you "I told you so"
Murco- France and Germanys fragile economc conditions???? Make that the fragile economic conditions of the USA- ie the Recession and the rapidly deteriorating dollar, while France and Germany both EU members- are a blossoming economy (Although with big unemployment- yet no labour shortage) the Euro has surpassed the USD in value as well.
Pick- I won't reply to your moronic post- but I don't take kindly to being called an arrogant piece of shit- Igor pretty much said what I have needed to day RE: That matter

I said it in my above post- despite Saddam being in charge the Iraqi's are all Muslim people- it is a goal of the radicals to knock out Saddam and create a fundy state/Liberate the iraqi's.
IF these fellow Muslims get slaughtered by the millions by the bombs of Bush- then the terrorists will carry out attacks because of the loss of fellow Muslim life

When it comes to economics you are friggin clueless. The U.S. is in a recession yes after a decade of prosperity never before seen by any country ever. I'm not saying France or Germany have fragile economies but if one was to crash and die before another the last one standing would be the U.S. The Euro and all the talk about a United Europe was toi help even out the economic power of the U.S. You realize you are talking about a friggin economic juggernaut like nothing the world has seen before? And if I was French or German I'd be worrying about the U.S. economy cause I hope you know it is basic Geo-economics that when the U.S. economy suffers the world's economies suffer.
Don't confuse this with U.S. pride run amuck, It's just the facts. Maybe economics aren't taught in the superior Australian school system?

At least they've got the Balls to say what they think about the President... Not everybody is in love with the President you know... would you be in a up roar if it was say some guy on the street corner who said that? Most likely No... Just because shes a celebrity of sorts she gets spot lighted when she says anything political.
Big Deal... Lets move on... We've got bigger fish to fry... Cant waste our time on some Musicians voicing their oppinions.

That may be your impression, but its not accurate. Last I had seen it was sixty some odd percent.
As for the Dixie Chicks. They can voice their opinion and the country fans can voice theirs by not purchasing their CDs. Since that is happening, they've backpeddled on what they said. So much for their convictions.

My honest opinion of this situation involving the Dixie Chicks is as follows: Who Gives Two Shits?!? It's just another example of the US treating a celebrity like shit cause their opinion isnt that of a consensus. Move on, next story. Im sure it will happen again.

GTStang: Jimmy is from New Zealand. Not Australia. Maybe geography isn't taught in the superior American school system?
Saddam Hussein is not a devout Muslim. As was said earlier, he kills the extremists because they pose a threat to him. As for Iran's oil: The reason the US hasn't gone after it is probably because Iran is an Islamic state. A strict one. Attacking it would incur the wrath of every Muslim on the planet. What would stop its leaders from calling a Jihad on the US if Iran is attacked?
Before I go further, let me say: I am anti-Saddam, and anti-Bush, and I'm not pro war. I believe Saddam should go, but the reasons for Bush's Crusade are a load of bullshit.
Iraq is targetted because it is an easy target. The Iraqi military uses inferior equipment and they are probably not as well trained. As I said in another thread, the feeling I get is that the Americans will move along quickly through the empty areas, making short work of the Iraqis. The Americans can move faster, shoot further and more accurately. Not to mention that they will probably have complete air superiority. Until they get to Baghdad. Chances are some Iraqis will fight against the US, some will fight with them. I could be wrong, remember this is all speculation based on what I have learned. If the city of Baghdad decides to fight against the Americans, well..anyone remember Mogadishu '93?
This is all taking into account that they don't have so called WMD's. And the only REAL weapon of mass destruction is a nuke;chemical and biological weapons disperse too much over a wide area so they will be ineffective. If Iraq does use nukes or banned weapons, well, hey, then Bush was right. IF he has them,he will probably use them as a last resort. Saddam is NO THREAT to the US. He does not want to invade the continental United States. He is also incapable.
Once again, I am not pro-Saddam. He is a dictator and a murderer who deserves to be hanged. I'm just concerned for all the innocent victims and the lives of the soldiers on both sides.
And like Yogs said: Who will bring Bush to trial for war crimes? History is written by the winners. How many Allied generals were prosecuted for war crimes after WW2?
Believe what you want to believe. Don't get brainwashed by Bush's spin doctors, make your own mind up.
I'll be praying for all the innocents who will die in this, and after this. Chances are some extremists groups will use this as an excuse to execute more attacks on Americans and American interests.
I have friends from Seattle who moved here last year because they were scared of being attacked in the US. They weren't scared of Saddam, or bin Laden, or Iran or whatever. They were scared of Bush. His foreign policy will see a lot more Americans die.
What would stop its leaders from calling a Jihad on the US if Iran is attacked?

i think you're getting a bit paranoid. i doubt this will even come close to a world war. whether anyone likes it or not if america goes into iraq it will be a qucil sweep with no military opposition besides iraq. france won't go to war with the us. they may disagree with america but both countries are still allies as they have been for may years...
