Our speedometer goes nuts on the Winstar after about 30mph. It has a scraping noise and the needle dances back and forth.
The dealer says his computer tells him the electronic speedometer is bad and wants $500 to replace it.
Does anybody have suggestions on replacing it myself with a salvage yard unit?
Is it hard to get at the unit?
Or other ideas?
Thanks

You will probably find that the junkyard will want just about as much for this item (if they will even sell one)<-- "due to the speedo tamper laws"
But is not really much of a problem to replace.
Let me know if you decide to repair yourself and I will help you in any way that I can.
Good Luck

Check these guys out:
http://www.carradio.com/speedometers/speedometer.html
They turned around the sppedo in a couple of days and the de-install/install was easy. they even included instructions!
It also gave me a good excuse to clean the dash...
No clue on the o/d light.....
