I have noticed a noise in my engine the other day. I will try my best to describe it. It started out kind of like a dull rumble/rattle that would increase when i sped up and decrease as I would slow down. Now it almosts sounds like the exhaust on one of those civics with the aftermarket exhausts, very high speed whinning vibrating kind of sound. It is a little louder now then the other day. It does not seem to affect my acceleration or the way my car starts or idles. It seems to be loudest when I take my foot off the gas and coast. Any ideas? Car has about 63k miles.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AF, very tough to help with this without hearing it. I assume this is when driving only, if so is it from the ft or rear, does it change when turning from lt to rt during driving manuevers, not really enough info to give any meaningful advice.

it is coming from under the hood for sure. Seems to be coming from the very front of the car. Turning left or right does not do anything. The noise, or frequency of the rapid tapping/humming/vibrating (dunno really what to call it) is directly related to the speed in which I am driving. At lower speeds it is slower, at faster speeds it is faster. I suppose I will just take it in to the shop but man they will charge me a ton. I figured if it is just a simple part I can do it myself. Thank you for your quick response!

It could be a cracked exhaust manifold.....this has been reported before..If it is, make sure you buy an OEM manifold .. if your gonna keep the vehicle.....
