Any way to drop or lift the tranny without droping the cradle to change the torque converter?

At the dealers, they drop one side of the subframe to pull the tranny away from the engine ... all while on a lift.
When I was faced with the task of swapping a tranny, and having little/no equipment ... I cut four "jack screws" out of metric threaded rod, replaced the subframe mounting bolts: and totally lowered the subframe complete with engine and tranny. Then I separated the tranny from engine ... in the driveway. Not pretty, but it worked.
If I was faced with just the torque converter, I might try suspending the engine in-place and dropping the subframe and tranny on jack screws
