Please help. I own a 93 sl2 with a 1.9L dual overhead cam, auto tranny. I'm leaking tranny fluid from the flywheel cover. When it's full of fluid it shifts fine, ofcourse when it gets low it slips. Would anyone have an idea of what seal might be bad? Do I need another tranny? Do you have to pull it out from the top or can you pull it out from the side? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

2 possible diagnosis.

1: Differential pin is poking a hole in the tranny bell housing. Solotion...Get a new tranny.

2. Seal around the input shaft is leaking. Solution....Put a new seal in.

Both require the tranny to be removed. Tranny can come out the drivers side wheel well once the engine cradle is lowered.

Using a mirror you can check the differenetial pin through the vehicle speed sensor. It should be flush with the carrier (metal thing aroung it).

Unfortunetly niether is cheap at a dealer or shop. expect around $1100 in labor for a swap at the dealer. New seal can be aroun 600 in labor.

Both you can do at home in your drive way. Let me know what you decide and ill help you with the tranny removal :)

I hope it's the seal. I'll probally do it myself. I refuse to pay someone that kind of money when I can do it. I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to start on it, but when I do I'll be sure to take you up on the offer for help. Thank you very much.
