I have a 2000 Impala which needs to be inspected in Aug. Took it today to get it looked at to see what I am going to need done and got some bad news which is going to cost me I think.
Looking for anyone who knows how much this is going to put me in the hole.
They say the both "rocker panels are rusted out" which I figured. I can deal with that.
However they also told me that the "Left subframe" is rusted out, this worries me, sounds like it's going to be a pretty penny.
As well as the RR strut is leaking and the front pipe leaking at the flex.
Both rear e-brake cables and e-brake stablizer, rear slider seized and pads stuck in saddles.
So there's a huge list of things.
My main concern is the subframe however.
Does anyone have any insights as to what this would cost a person?
Could the subframe be replaced all together or possibly a left subframe piece be welded in?
What do you think I should do?
I will have it paid off next year keeping that in mind.
Thanks!

A salvage yard should be able to get you a good one for about 200-250. New is 590.00, it cannot be sectioned. The labor is about 6 hours, plus any incidental issues or parts. Plus an alignment.

You might check some scrap yards in the southern states buy the whole body as you surely have a lot of other rust. I know they sell crown vics on the ford forum. One of the regulars has a yard reasonable cost.

In my opinion this is the time to get another vehicle.....since you appear to live where road chemicals are a problem have your replacement vehicle rustproofed and have rust spots touched up before you get this to reoccur..
If you plan on repairing your vehicle yourself this would be an option ...
once again this is my opinion based on cost verses vehicle value..
