Proportioning valve leaks, need breakdown diagram

I'd greatly appreciate it if you could send me a sectional or exploded parts diagram for what I believe to be the rear brakes proportioning valve or brake pressure control valve on my 95 Windstar or for a vehicle like it? What I have is a block near the left rear tire with two brake lines entering it. On the back side, there are two screwed in hexagon pieces about 1.5 in long and 22mm across flat to flat. Each of these has a brake line going to each back wheel. The hexagon piece has a visible seal, I assume between two halves, where there is a leak. I would like to know what the guts of this thing look like so I can knowledgably try to disassemble it and not have springs shooting out of sight. If you know how this thing comes apart, what's in it, know about this seal and its r/r, that would be helpful. I want to say that these hexagonal pieces look kind of like what is screwed into the side of some master cylinders that have the proportioning/pressure control on it and not a separate component downstream. I'm assuming the seal is leaking. Anyone know what kind of seal it uses, if it is special?

Although these things rarely fail.. I thought I saw a post a while back were someone had a leak and all it was was a small O-ring.. I have not dove into the Windstars proportion valve "AKA" equalizing valve as of yet had no need to at this point.. One thing I will caution is not sure on the Windstar but some of the spring tension can be as much as 400 psi pressure. Again not sure and are more times than most just replaced. I had a Jeep one time and started to work on the valve and tried to remove the main spring to access some of the seals and orings and my socket and ratchet was shot out of my hand by the pressure of the spring. Good thing is my 87 jeep had the cheaper proportion valve that I was able to find at the dealer for 70 bucks. If I had another year model i could have spent as high as 200 bucks.. I was lucky in both areas one I was not injured and 2 the price.. Also you can by a dial in proportion valve. As long as the thread match up you can use them. Not really needed but you will be able to control how much braking the front and rear wheels have. Most race cars have them and really can be used in any type of car.. Some modification needed in some models of course.. Mostly thread size will differ.

Thanks Karl for sending me to that site. I will read it asaic, but I was very impresed with the figures. They appear to be very detailed. I was in a pinch to fix the leak good enough to get it to pass inspection. And since I only had an hour to get it fixed and to the inspection, I didn't want to do anything risky with it. So all I did was remove it, front and back flush it and put it back together. I learned that the leak was actually coming from a weap hole or pressure equalization hole on the side of the valve covered by a rubber o-ring in a circumferential groove. I doubt the o-ring is meant to hold in the brake fluid but instead, keep stuff from getting in the hole.

Gary, I'll keep your advice in mind on projectile socket wrenches. :D Did this happen when unscrewing the hex piece from the body or block? Was it anything like mine, 1.5 in by 22 mm(~7/8")? It also has a rubber o-ring on a ~3/4" dia. male end with fine threads. I don't know what's inside of it, but it didn't look it had sturdy enough pieces to hold a strong spring inside. That may have been inside the block, which I didn't inspect as it wasn't leaking. The adjustable prop. valve, how expensive, where bought, how do you set it? This would replace the whole assembly, not just the one piece I unscrewed? And, the brake lines go to it?

OK I just found the difference between the 95 ans the 2001 proportion valve. There is a big difference and they don't even look the same and are not mounting in the same place. I have said these have different names, so Ford calls this part Pressure metering valve.. Mine on a 2001 cost about 59.00. A 95 windstars cost 109.00.. I was looking at mine and saw a simple set up. Mine is right under the drivers side area.. Yours looks a little more complex. As far as a modified proportion valve in your case I would bypass this idea. You would have to cut and relocate brake lines. I did not realize yours is mounted in the back area.?? I will see what i find on yours. The book saying 95-2003 are located in the same area.??
