mike, where was the photo taken? was it roped off so you could not touch it?

It was at the Broward County Convention Center in Florida. They usually rope off cars that are expensive or haven't made it to showrooms yet. In this case it would be the latter.

Sure it's FWD, sure it's a V6, but the 94-96 SS should have never worn that nameplate either. An Impala SS is a 2 door, V8, bucket seats, floor mounted shifter. And that died in the late 60's.

20 years ago no one would have built an SS ANYTHING with 4 doors, let alone FWD!
FWD makes a nice winter car to get through the snow.
4 door cars are family/granny cars.
Imagine for a moment.........a 1966 Impala 4 door with SS equipment ,pretty gross huh?
Bring back a real 2 door RWD Impala on a full frame and then I might get excited.

tell you what my take is on 2 doors...
2 door cars with front and back seats = redundant
2 door cars with front seats only = makes sense!
i hate crawling into the back of a 2 door car because its a sorry atempt at being sporty. one more thing, go look at the weight diference between the new monte carlos and impalas, its more or less naught.

HERE (http://www.geocities.com/chevyxtremefx/pics1.html) is my website. I threw a few pics on there. I was at that same car show at the Broward County Convention Center in south Florida.
I didn't get a real good full-car pic of the Monte but look at a (current) Monte SS with the High Sport Appearence Package, and that's pretty much it. It's a nice car.
You might say "V-6, FWD" but look at all the imports that everyone seems to be buying.....4 banger, FWD. I hate rice, but all rice is pretty much 4 cyl. FWD and they don't seem to complain about it. And actually, some of those kids do get those cars to go pretty fast.
Imports seem to be selling more cars than Detroit nowadays so they must be doing something right.

No prob, I just wish I got a better pics of it but everone kept piling up around it. I love that car, too.
My lease is up next spring and I was thinking about getting one, but I keep hearing rumers about a RWD version coming out in '05. I don't really mind the FWD if that's all that is available. But I don't want to get an '04 and then they bring back the RWD a year later.Same with the Impala, I wanted one last year, good thing I didn't get one cuz now they have the SS coming out. I would have been pissed! I hate when they do that.
I will probably organize all my photos from that show on my site later when I have time. But for now, I posted those up there so you can see them. Also cuz I have no idea how to post them on here,

Whatever, the mid/late '90's black RWD SS Impala's (Caprice's) were BADASS! - that LT1 V8 and beefy 17" rims were more than any '60's Impala could handle. Its such a shame what they did to the Impala line making it a gutless FWD 6-banger. I personally don't give a rats ass what they do to the "new" SS Impala - or the gutless "SS" Monte Carlo - for fuck sakes, strap the GTP supercharger on that bloody 3800 V6 and make it respectable.
I don't know if the new SS Silverado is the same as what I've seen in showrooms , but the NEW 454 SS pickup truck from Chevy is one awesome truck - All new 7.4L V8, monster 20" rims, menacing front grill - now thats a truck! (looks like the SS Silverado pictured at top of thread, maybe they call it something different up here than in the States).

Nevermind, put a blower on the upcoming 3800 Impala just to give the Cops a break - ever since they started phasing out the old Caprice's and buying new Impala's and Crown Vic's there has been such a loss of respect for the Cops. They frequently call off persuits these days because so many suspects try to outrun the Cops. Why?? Cause they drive slow cars! Back in the day NOBODY used to run from the Cops because it was common knowledge that the Caprice cruisers had the "Cor-vette" engine in them - and with the Police upgrade those LT1's were putting out more horsepower than the ones in the Corvette's.
You have to admit that its absolutely stupid why GM never brought out the Monte Carlo SS without offering a GTP supercharger on it - or any other model where a 3800 was the engine.

my uncle works at gm in purchasing for the higher end parts and he says that 2005 monte carlo will be rwd and 300+ hp and he is normally right about that stuff. does anyone know the month the 2004 impalas will be out. Or if theres anything new about them beside there being a ss which i think is really cool. oh and for not being as cool as the 96 ss i bet it will be just as fast those big v8 engines didn't really have a lot of hp and they weighed 700lbs more.

Without a doubt - just look at the GTP's: those are low 15 second cars right out of the box and the engine itself(with blower) has been rated at over 140 Mph. Plus the blower is easy to tweak to get more PSI out of it.
However, don't let the factory horsepower rating on the previous RWD Impala SS (Caprice) fool you. Sure it was a heavy car, but the engine modifications for that V8 are endless. You throw in a forged 383 stroker kit and you now have a 6.3L, 450+ HP monster - READY to now be force fed by a supercharger if need be!
Stock for stock though, a new supercharged Impala SS would beat the older RWD V8 Impala SS(Caprice).

maybe their making cars ugly because their selling to many cars. i doubt it but it wouldn't be the first time that gm held to much of the market and had to make their cars less wantable because they didn't want the government going after them for owning to much of the market. and i think the impala ss looks awesome but i wish it would have 260hp like the new gtp and costed less.

If they stay FWD, I'm sure that the redesign will include the Series III V6. Even if they go RWD, We may see a Series III SC V6 as an option on a middle model, with a V8 in the performance model of course.

Like Microsoft, and their monopoly?
Hahaha, that could be. Way too many people are going foreign when it comes to cars. And I don't blame them with what Detroit offers anymore.
ALOT of time and money has gone into trucks and SUV's because all of a sudden, that's what everyone wanted. When it comes to trucks or SUV's, I go GM all the way because they "make" them better (as opposed to their cars) because they spend more to build them, to market them, to revise them..... as far as their cars, well that's another story. How many magazine ads or TV commercials do you see about their trucks compared to their cars? They don't concentrate on cars too much anymore. I think they pretty much gave this part of the share to Japan. But that's a pretty damn smart business move because what do they care? They have the more popular (more profitable)market....TRUCKS. It's like sharing a burger and fries with someone, "here, I'll keep the burger and you can have the fries, yes?"

Hey Everyone,
Well in fact the 2006 Impala will be rear wheel drive. I work for Gm and the rumors are true. The platform is going to be based off of the Aussie Holden. This car is made in Austrulia, but GM owns holden. The new 2006 impala will be Rwd with a gen 3 LS1 350 V-8. If you want go the GM website and look at there middleeastern line of cars. You will see that they offer a Caprice with the gen 3 LS1 engine. You will also see that they offer a lumina with a 350. It tends to seem that GM builds a better line of cars over in the middle east, then here in the us. This makes me sick. Link to Gm middle east website http://www.gmarabia.com/

Actually the engines are not the same depending on the year you look at. The new Impala SS will have 240hp which is 20hp less than a 2004 GTP but the same as earlier ones. A 2004 GTP will win in a race because of this and a couple other things like drive by wire.

let me rephrase that the engines are the same its the supercharger thats different or it might even be the same and they just made the gtp put more boost or computer upgrade(its only 20hp). you probably could fit the impala engine in your car with a little work.

I'm sorry, why anyone would want a new Impalla SS is beyond me. They only make like 40 more HP over a standard Impalla.
Now the Impalla SSR is gonna be a sweet ride. I heard the SSR is gonna have the 5.7L LT1.

The SSR is out, and has a a 5.7, there is no longer any speculation. It is not called the Impala SSR, just SSR. The SSR has no backseat, and no true trunk, just a pickup bed with a hard tonneau. The middle aged 40 yr old male will buy the SS to satisfy his wifes wants of a midsize, children hauler, and to satisfy his quest for speed. Tell me, where would 2 children go in the SSR? I guess a few bungees would hold the youngins down. I don't mean anything by this, but you just got :owned:

You know there was an S-10 SS which was a 4.3l V6. That thing only had 10 hp more then the regular 4.3.

The new Impala SS should have its respectable 280 lb*ft. of torque available early. I bet if GM gave the new SS a decent 5 speed auto or manual transmission to go with the engine and the same +20 horsepower the Bonneville receives, it would be quicker than similarly equipped Altima 3.5, Camry Solara V6, Passat V6 or Accord V6.
As it is? It will probably be faster than the 300M and the Crown Vic or even Mercury Marauder, but still slower than a lot of the similarly priced FWD foreign competition.
On the other hand, I read an article called "GM's Advanced Engines" at edmunds.com which said that GM is going to product a new 3.9 liter V6 which gets 240 horsepower and torque naturally aspirated. If GM goes RWD with the Impala, an Impala with the 5.7 liter LS1 is probably out of my price range. But an Impala with a supercharged 3.9 liter V6 making 300 horsepower might be right up my alley.
As it is? It will probably be faster than the 300M and the Crown Vic or even Mercury Marauder, but still slower than a lot of the similarly priced FWD foreign competition.
On the other hand, I read an article called "GM's Advanced Engines" at edmunds.com which said that GM is going to product a new 3.9 liter V6 which gets 240 horsepower and torque naturally aspirated. i have a 95 caprice with an LT1, and i got a 2000 impala police car with the 3.8, and there not that far apart as far as speed go's, but my caprice needs a tune-up, but so does the impala. i don't know anybody that i trust enough to let drive the other one, so i haven't raced them side by side yet. i'd ask my wife, but she would try to kill me just for racing. she doesn't like "speeding". i do

i know my caprice would win, but i'm just sayin the impala's not slow ether. i don't know if it's a different engine couse it was a police car, but it's fast anyway.
