No - I have already started on it and it should be fine as is. The gap down the middle is less than 10 pixels - lines up perfectly with a slight north/south adjustment, and I was able to rotate it first to set the horizon flat. It shouldn't be too difficult to stitch up - thanks though.

Well, everyone can have a poster now. :naughty:
Here's my completed effort - in addition to simply stitching the pages together as was the original plan, I also spent quite a bit of time removing some of the printing artifacts which were all over the pages, and I cleaned up some of the areas where the ink had been slightly worn away from the pages rubbing together. I consider it 'photo sanitization'.
In the end, well, I think it looks fantastic!! :1:
Click on this pic for a 1630x985 version.

Don't fret about that 'large' size though, because my working copy was ultra-high resolution just like Le Man's original scans. Final version is 2x the size of what is offered above, at 3260x1970.  At 72dpi if you printed it, you'd have something 45"x27" - or double the dpi and it still prints at 22.5"x13.5". :)
I didn't want my Photobucket account getting dinged everytime someone grabs the 'original', so you have to get it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?jdmazyzzqnj).
Enjoy!

I may have enlarged this pic a little too much :screwy:, it needs a lot of cleaning up. As the pic was only small, in the book that I scanned it from. BMW Classic have this similar poster for sale on their site, but I,m not too keen on the angle.(although I will probably still buy this image as well :))

The first image is what I call 'over-scanned' and will not be workable. You're actually seeing the pixelation from the magazine's printer. I think most magazines are printed at under 150dpi, so if you scan it any higher than that those will be your results.
You'd actually get a better source scanning it at a lower resolution, and then trying to blow it up and do some sharpening of that image if you want a larger size.
Another thing I've done with decent results in the past is photograph the image on the page with a digital camera in macro mode. Depending on the resolution your camera shoots at, you can still end up getting the printer pixelation as a result though.

Yay!!! :sunglasse
The red car leading is GTR #10R for those unaware, and 1996 LeMans Pre-Qualifying was the only time it ever took to the track in any kind of competitive nature. There are three other shots of it at LeMans, or perhaps four if you count the one of it coming off the transporter, so seeing a pic of it at speed like that one above is pretty cool, I think. :)
And as a reward for your brilliance Chris, here's the remainder of the pics that I found in a similar location. These weren't taken the same date though, but about 10 months earlier of course.

No, Gulf cars 02R (#24) and 08R (#25) had already the modified front for the Le Mans '95 as you can see in the images (click to see them enlarged). The front was almost similar to the winner 01R Ueno #59, but they didn't use the extra lights on the front during the night like the #59.

Can't tell which track that might be, but wearing race number 1, it has to be #02R.
#04R and #08R shared race number 16, with #04R only participating in two the Jerez and Paul Ricard rounds of the 1995 series before L. Owen Jones rolled it in practice at the following event at Monza. Neither car appeared at the Jarama race which followed, and then #08R took over for the remainder of the season, starting at Round 5 at the Nurburgring

04R raced the opening rounds at Jerez and Paul Ricard as #3. Then LOJ took it couple of times off the track too hard at Monza and damaged it badly and so they had to replace it with the chassis 08R at Nurburgring, with the new racing number, #16, which it wore to the end of the season. 08R wasn't ready before Nurburgring, as 06R and 07R took the delivery at Jarama. 08R was first supposed to be the Ueno Clinic entry at Le Mans but as what happened forced McLaren to use the 01R for that with the known results. :)
From the image DMFerrari provided it is quite hard to tell where it has been taken. The tight cropping does it even harder. From the modification of the front and the decals hints that it has been taken between the Jarama and Nurburgring races, maybe in the tests. 02R wore the black "McLaren GTR" wind screen banner till the Jarama race (on the front cover of GT Endurance 1995), and was replaced to the white one as on the image before Nurburgring, but had in the race some sort of proto of the roof scoop that came later to the GTR'96 cars at LM'96. The card that features the five GTRs is taken at Donington race weekend, the race after Nurburgring, and then they had a special curved winglets on the sides of the nose. Again some sort of proto to what came common in the later part of the BPR'96 season on the GTC (12R & 15R), DPR (upgraded 03R & 06R) and GRT (11R) cars starting from Suzuka/Pokka 1000km 1996 race.
Sorry I haven't scanned much of those books and so can't upload the images to show all these details. Maybe some day.

I visited today Motor Sport Show of Helsinki, which was organized first time this year.
Suprisingly there wasn't any GTR McLarens, but AUTO GLYM poster had this same #10R which I photografed last years Classic Motor Show. Same image, same advertising.
Here can be seen that roof scoop and other details, which have been on the table couple of days here now.

Thanks for correcting!
I only remembered the photo in the GT Endurance 1995 from Monza as LOJ had had the off's and 04R had the scratches and was missing the left rear tire. But the better explanation of 04R's destiny is there written in the section for Jarama:
There should have been six McLarens on the grid, with the addition of the GRT Jacadi's new F1 GTR for Fabien Giroix and Moody Fayed's Mach 1 Racing GTR for Justin Bell and Andy Wallace. One was lost, though, as Lindsay Owen-Jones had a major crash on the downhill section, losing control at over 150 km/h then hitting barrier and rolling the car over.
Does anyone have any aftermath photos?

I kind of new that it had to be from tests as it doesn't match any race photos. Thanks for confirmation!

You can always offer a correction - that's how we learn things.
Looking back at more detailed records, I do see that #04R completed 64 laps at Monza before retiring due to "accident". It's also on the "Did not start" list for the Jarama race, with no recorded time in Practice. Perhaps the accident occurred very early on, maybe due to cold tires?
I seem to recall you stating that the current whereabouts of #04R would be revealed in time. I have to ask - is it time yet? :icon16:

Lyndsey,s accident was in free practice on the Thursday before the race.
04R,s Engine and gearbox was put in the rear of 08R, As 08R was built as a spare rolling chassis just before Lyndsey purchased it. Erik you have something that will confirm this .
There are no crash pics about, not that I know of.

I might know a guy who could put some time into that. ;)
I've got them lined up next to each other in Photoshop now, but the really difficult part is going to be the Michelin Man logo down on the nose and that little winglet thing. I'll see what I can do with it - perhaps borrowing a section from an unrelated photo to make it all work. :naughty:

To be honest, as I typically am, while the new scan has more clarity in the details, the process used for the older one somehow produced richer and more saturated colors. This isn't entirely true based on just looking at each of those images that you shared, but I took the "OLD" and in Photoshop I increased it's dimensions using the Image Size function to match those of your "NEW" one. Then I used Photoshop's "Auto Contrast" feature, which magically removes a lot of the grey haze from the original scan. To make it a fair fight, I also did the "Auto Contrast" to the "NEW" scan as well. Then I cropped the "NEW" one to match the height of the "OLD" and placed them together in the same image ("OLD" on top) which you can see here.

Frankly while the details of the "NEW" one are a little crisper like the outline of the individual sponsor decals (perhaps even over-sharpened), I find the "OLD" one to be the more appealing image after my minor contrast change. It just 'pops' on the screen so much better. If you can bring the two together at the same time - better clarity and vibrant colors - then you'll truly have a winner.
I know you aren't working from the greatest of sources there, but hopefully you'll consider my comments to be productive ones. :)

Many thanks Erik, your comments are most appreciated.
In my "NEW" image I used Auto levels, then Sharpened, plus Sharpen edges. This was OK, but the sponsors logo,s did not look right, so in Noise I used despeckle, then Dust/Scratches. Which made the clarity of the logo,s in my eye, much better.
I,m with you on the colour view point, Its a case of getting the cars body colour and the grass to look natural, but also to "pop" of the screen better. I was probably being lazy, by just using Auto levels.
Perhaps we should have a photoshop thread on here

I've always felt that Photoshop's plain "Sharpen" option is too harsh on most images, and never use it. "Unsharp Mask is a favorite, and you have to adjust the sliders just right for the desired effect. My usual settings are in the 400-450% range, then just 0.2 or 0.3 on the radius, and then a slight compensation of 1-5 on the threshold to get the intended results.
I don't like "Auto Levels" on some images as it can really skew the hue of certain colors. Intially, I always go with "Auto Contrast" first, then will give "Auto Levels" a try if I think it will help. If not, then I'll just play with the R-G-B levels manually, using Image -> Adjust -> Levels (or Ctrl-L). You can do quite a bit with an image using those sliders individually. Then another favorite is "Hue/Saturation" for those pics that need just a bit more tweaking.

Yep, Photoshoping is sometimes prity hard work. Every image is different.
It depends so much the an orginal image, how good it its when you start fixing it.
I have shoted aircrafts many years and couple of years ago started to shot cars also. Allways same format:
- add some exprosure
- Add some shadow/light about 10-15%
- Curves up
- Contrast and lighting up
- Color balance
- Sharpen
- Undersharp mask with 0,2 radius first time 500 full size image
- then resize the image exp.1024 size and then again undersharp mask 120
- that's it quite often.
But every image is different and to get best result, sometimes you have to spent really much time to working it out a good way.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but I just found this new picture off the Iding Power website, showing F1 GTR #01R outside its' pit garage at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, probably being final-prepped before its' history-making race.
