i just changed the spark plugs in a 98 Windstar and started the engine and it was fine. I then shut the hood and started it again only to find a spark jumping. what could be causing this?

Do you mean by "a spark jumping" that you see arching? Or do you mean that it is actually jumping up and down?

I see an electrical spark on the bottom of the engine compartment. Wasn't there before or right after I changed the plugs. It started happening after I closed the hood. The spark is under the air filter area on the bottom of the engine.

I would raise the front of the vehicle up and get under it while it is running. If it is under the air filter element, then it is most likely not the spark plugs but rather an arching electrical connection or wire. But there is no way to know this unless you can specifically identify which wire and connector. It might be a simple solution like using electrical tape or it might require you to get a new wire or connector.
