Water pump removal information

I will have to replace the water pump on my 3.8 engine 2001 Windstar. For those who have replaced it, is it possible to just remove the front passenger side nut on the motor mount ( to lift the engine enough) to clear the WP pulley to remove it? I have planned to jack the engine a few inches by the bottom.

I think most of us have lowered the front of the engine. If I had to do it over again (now that I've experienced an engine replacement), I think I would lower the subframe using the jack-screws that I obtained for that purpose.

When I did mine, I removed both front and back motor mounts. Front was a piece of cake and the back wasn't too bad with the cowl and the wheel off. I had to raise the motor quite a bit so I don't think you could just take the one off to remove the pulley. Not a bad job, just time consuming!

I did mine recently and had to lift up the engine with a jack. Some of the studs came out as the nut did not loosen up. The studs were too long to come out as there is very small space on the side. I still had to loosen and remove all the nuts from studs. Lifting the engine fair enough is the best as you will gain more room. Also remove the alternator...it will help to have better access. Do not forget to disconnect battery!!!!

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Will see what is easier for me (lift or lower the engine to remove the wp. pulley.
