PCV catch can install w pictures

I installed a PCV catch can on my 2000 3.8. The main reason for this was there seemed to always be an oily/coolant "mystery liquid" beneath where the PCV line entered the intake and I was concerned that maybe I had a leak or something. This set up cost me about $30 it total. I decided to use a Campbell-Hausfeld water separator that is commonly used for a compressor. It cost about $23 and had everything I wanted, small size, valve for drain, clear catch container. I made a custom bracket and screwed it to the frame above the rad. I used about 4 feet of 3/8" rubber gasoline line along with the ends of an old PCV hose that I retained from doing the 171/174 DTC repair in the fall. Aside from making the bracket which involved a bit of welding and some powder coating for metal protection (as I did the red valve cover) the job was done in about 1/2 hour. I have driven about 150 km since installing the catch can. I was surprised how much oil it collected in such a short period of time. The zip tie on the can maintains the valve in a shut position. It was a bit loose for my liking without some sort of fixation. The zip tie attached to the DPFE was to maintain the hose away from the hood latch.

Mine is a Greddy.
It will catch a LOT of fluid in the winter......not so much in the summer.

The Campbell-Hausfeld unit has a small white filter in it.....I would strongly recommend that you remove it....as it will clog up over time and reduce the flow through the PCV system......which you do not want to do.

It's funny you mention the filter. The unit that I bought has a brass coloured filter that has tiny holes in it. I have seen the white ones you refer to and feel as well that they'd clog. So far, the brass one doesn't look any different than when it was new. I wonder if CH has recently changed their design. Thanks for the heads up thought:grinno:
