Kids and there neons

Nothing personal or anything for those of you who might own dodge neons, but is it just me or does every kid with a neon in every city have to try to race us honda owners? here in pittsburgh there are tons and tons of kids with neons and about half of them have challanged me at one point or another. is there ANYONE who might be able to slightly inform me why They do this??

cuz' they're jus as fast as civics...an the new SRT's will STOMP a bunch of imports w/ out some nice mods.

They new SRT4 is gonna put most imports to shame with out some nice mods. I think they are sub 6 sec 0-60. Not a fan of neons myself but i wouldnt mind test driving one of the SRT's.

kuz a stock neon and a stock civic are pretty damn close. its a fair race. why not try. i want an srt-4 but id also liek alotta other shit b4 that.

Why is it that when a person mentions a neon the first response is " the new SRT will spank a civic" So what. The new SRT also has a TURBO!!!! Honda doesn't make turbo charged cars so of course the new SRT will hand a Civic his ass so why are you even comparing the two??? It's like saying " The R34 Skyline GTR will kill a Civic ".......um really, I didn't know that.:rolleyes:

nonono, my point was jus that he was saying "why would ppl try to race a neon?" an so i was jus backin the neon. i kno it snot fair to compare, but still, they shouldn't go crackin on cars that ARE as fast as civics/MOST hondas.

Yah I know Neons deserve their props but it just seems like all neon owners are like " SRT SRT SRT ". If you ain't got one then STHU. Oh and yes the SRT is a bad ass 4 banger but damn that thing is ugly. Honda may not have a turbo but it has a hell of a lot more style and sex appeal.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

im on the other side. i find every honda after 4th gen to be butt ugly where as the newest neons have something original and cool about them.

That's funny. But hey everyones entitled to their opinion. I feel the same way about all VW's. You find every civic after 4th gen butt ugly and you couldn't pay me to drive a VW. Strangeworld we live in huh?:D

I wasn't trying to put down neons as a car but the kids with the mentality that makes them want to race every honda owner alive. I personally like some of the neons and respect a couple cause they're nice appearance and performance weise, but every goober who gets mommy's neon for the night runs around revving at me and it just gets annoying after a while.

im w/ u on that one too b16...IMO vw's jus aren't too stylish (cept i do like the new GTI 1.8T's). but to all their own, i understand a lot of ppl also dont 'like the high-rev'n motors of hondas an even i have to admit its pathetic havin a ratio of 170hp/128 trq...sad world. :D

I got a friend w/ the 1.8T an the hp output on that sucks ass. A turbo car that cant even break the 200 mark.....:apoke:

its barely boosting anything. tell him to chip it and you will get about a 40-50 hp boost of power.

Whats wrong with comparing forced induction to N/A? Thats like saying you shouldnt compare the NSX to the skyline GT-R, Supra Turbo, RX7 FD, or the Mitsubishi Evo. The original ITR's main competitor was the second gen Silvia K.

When you're car shopping, you dont skip over a possible vehicle just because its boosted...

(btw, I met a guy last fall who turboed his late-model SI. Told me his car got 210hp and 190lbs/ft at the wheels)

What kind of Turbo kit was he using and how much psi was he running?But anyways that's still just 5hp less and the reason behind the major difference in torque is the large difference in displacement (2.4 - 1.6)so overall that guys turbo proved my point. That a boosted Si still puts out equal if not better #'s than the SRT.

you take a 10 sec civic and those neon peps are going to get there a$$ handed to them and second i've heard of a vw beating a v8 duster:bloated:

All I remember is that his car was brand new and the turbo kit was fairly conservative. He hadnt fine tuned it yet, so if he upgraded injectors and such, he might've made 10- 20 more horses.

But still, most magazines have dynoed the SRT at 230+hp and 250lbft.

When you say "The Si still puts out equal, if not better #s than the SRT" you are referring to HP/liter and not HP/kg. Its common knowledge that hondas engines are more advanced and efficient than their competitors, but "more efficient" doesnt always mean "better".

Yeah I agree but I still dont think you can compare a 1.6L 160 hp NA motor and a 2.4L 215-230hp FI motor. The cars may be in the same market niche as you said but the motors are in two very different classes.

My brother has a 97 accord V-6 (look for a thread in the V-6 forum for pics ) and there is a guy with a neon in my area tha tlives near us, all it has or at least all we can see is neon lights on the hood, fart can, 16 inch wheels, and an ugly ass metal wing. every time he sees us he revs at us and shit like that, He doesdnt stand a chance against my bros car, hope fully one day they can race and my bro will win! also, weve seen him numerous times come running from his trailer to ge tin his car to come after us, he never catches us though ;)

And now my best friend got a 97 accord V-6 and all we do is rev at that guy, and he does the same thign he does to my bro

If that Neon is a 5-speed, not automatic, you will be owned.

uh...don't underestimate the V6 VTEC motors in the accord. yea...its an auto, but it'd still have plenty of get-up to leave even a 5sp. neon in the dust....especially if the neon has no real mods...

Stock for stock, a Neon 5-speed will leave an Accord V-6 auto in the dust. Accoeds are dogs stock.

ur full of ish...170hp/165trq, compared to 132/130 in the neon...it was my mistake, i forgot it was a 97, so its not the EX VTEC version, but the accord would still have enough umph to get up an beat a neon.

You have to remember, an Accord is going to be at least 700lbs heaver than a Neon.

If Accords can only "keep up" with Mustangs, a Neon will smoke it. A Neon can take a v-6 Mustang no problem. Again I'm talking stock for stock not modified.

Neons had an optional 150hp engine. That would definitely beat the accord, since neons weigh over 800lbs less! The 132hp version could probably keep up with the accord.

Neons suck just because of the shear fact that they are american. AS with any domestic car, (mabye excluding cadilac ect..) some of them may be faster than the imports, but they sure as hell have nothing on import styling, so basicly if an imports gonna loose to an american car at least its gonna look a hell of a lot better doing it and it will last twice as long as an American car. Dont get me wrong i love this country but they need a little lesson from the Japs on how to make a car look good and last longer.

i read in a 2002-2003 car guide that the neons advertised HP was overrated and they didn't possess the amount of HP advertised. this is not in referral to the new dodge SX's.
as for a neon beating a v6 accord, is this the new v6 accord we're talking about?? or the 5th-7th gen?
cuz i would think that a 240 engine would kick a "150" despite the 800pound difference. accords were meant to be luxurious family sedans, neons, well, made for just family transportation. can't really compare there unless using a neon and a civic or a 3rd gen efi accord which are around 2.2-2.3 tons.

, also since its american, at about 125,000 miles, it breaks down beyond repair. while honda will last well into 300,000 miles, i know of a civic in my area that has that much on it

The only reason the old American cars are still on the road is because people who are dedicated to them completely strip and rebuild them, i guarentee the engine has not stayed in that good a condition for 50+ years. and the paint as well. Jap cars from the 70s are still around, but they just wernt in the baby boomers generation so no one wants to keep them around, they have no sentimental value

theres a guy up my road with an old ass civic, its really really old, im not sure what year, but im gonna have to say from the 70s at least, and it is so bad looking, i love it.

my dad owns a 1969 ford clubwagon and it has never been rebuilt and runs great. just normal things like chain hoses rubber parts and wires have been chaged.:rolleyes: my firend at work owns a 79 trans am as well in the exact situation so wah wah wah american cars fall apart...
