After reading the thread "Losing faith", I'm just curious of the opinions of everyone who hasn't voiced their opinion. The poll is anonymous.

Yup. The universe didn't happen by accident.

Yes it did, even higher beings make mistakes sometimes.

theres no doubt in my mind that a being or race much more advanced, powerful, and/or 'higher' exists. probably more than a few.

The answer is simple really. I don't see how anyone could not come to the conclusion.

Shoulda thought of a better thread title! :uhoh: :greddy2:
I would like to think Slideways is right and there is another civilization out there far more advanced then us. Given the the amount of space out there, other life is possible. What do they worship?
Since were on the questioning of faith...What created god? Does god have an equal? Does everyone all go to the same heaven? If so, Is everyone be able to understand all the different languages? Or will it all be the same language and what would that language be? Why do bad people go to hell and get punished for doing things satan would do? If a child has to die for god to teach people of his mysterious ways, what did that kid do to deserve it? What happens to good and bad animals?
That ought to get this thread rolling...:evillol:

There's not a shred of evidence indicating that a supernatural being exists. In fact, such an idea contradicts everything we know about the way the universe works. So, in short, no, there is no higher being.

so you believe that humans are the most advanced form of life in the universe? seems like kind of a closed minded way of going about it.

I agree. The universe is governed by the natural laws (physics, chemistry etc.) Any religious explanation about a deity creating anything is ludicrous.
There are hundreds of popular religious explanations about the creation of the universe. Many are contradictory and they cannot all be right. There is no evidence to support any of these stories so IMO none are true.
I am perfectly willing to believe that in all the billions of galaxies out there, with each galaxy having average 100 million or so stars each, there is at least one race of beings that are superior to humans, that have developed on at least one of the planets out there. But did they create the universe?? Probably not.

If the universe is governed only by "natural laws", answer this. Where did the universe come from? I remember from physics class something about "matter cannot be created nor destroyed", so where did the universe come from? Big bang? OK, but where did that matter come from?
It doesn't matter how many different explanations there are, either religious or "scientific". There is only one right answer. Just because something contradicts something doesn't mean both are wrong. For example, if matter cannot be created, then the theory of the big bang is rediculous because clearly this computer is matter, I can touch it, it takes up space. Come to think of it, so is this desk, the floor, walls, and the ceiling. "Science" says that matter cannot be created, yet here it is, everywhere. I just looked outside and there's matter out there as well. Since that is contradictory, then clearly science does not exist.
Where is the evidence that there was a big bang? I dont know of any, if there is, please share it. As far as I know, a bunch of atheists needed to find a way that we were not created by God. Apparently, they thought that a big bang which came from nothing created all the matter in the universe and formed all the planets and stars. Then, there were big balls of rock which just happened to all begin orbiting stars. After billions of years, various chemicals came together the create single cell lifeforms which eventually evolved into multi-cell lifeforms. But, keep in mind that evolution happens when a lifeform needs to adapt to something. We grew legs because we moved out of the oceans and onto land. That makes perfect sense for two reasons. The first is that there was still plenty of water out there, and nothing was forced onto land, so why move? The second is that when things need to evolve (in such a drastic way), THEY DIE. If you dont believe me, the next time you go fishing, throw a fish up on land. I'd bet you that 1) it doesn't grow legs 2) it dies within minutes.
I have given thought to both sides (there are many more unanswered questions with evolution), and came to a logical conclusion. What thought have you given to creationism?

I think there is a 'higher being', its just thinking about how the higher being was created starts to hurt my brain.. cause everything has a creator.. doesn't it?

Actually there's a lot of evidence supporting stories of the Bible that there is no common explanation, except those that exceed thinking outside the box and aren't even mutually agreed upon. THe biggest is that of the chariots in a row at the bottom of the Red Sea with no signs of it happening due to a sinking of a ship.
But that doesn't matter, science proves itself wrong time and time again, so why couldn't it be possible over time as we get more advance we are then able to find ways to prove the supernatural, anything beyond the obvious. Heck, Pluto isn't even a planet anymore. That one statemtn shows, science is just as much a religion in itself because it to is based on faith. They faith they're right, but are they? We won't know for sometime. There are people that knew the atom was the smallest thing there was, until they split it.
Yes, argue with that. When you come up with something besides "well, um" then we talk. Until then to live is to have faith in something therefore in everyone's mind there is something more, something bigger, and whatever it is, it created us.

You put your faith in a book. The book was written by people. When trying to do almost anything you have to account for human error. Did you ever do the thing in elementary school where you all sit in a circle and the teacher whispers to the first student a phrase. That phrase is whispered to each of the others until the last student. The last kid had to say the phrase out loud. It was never the same as what the teacher said....
That being said,...Is the bible right?.... it was written by people....

I'm sure you are correct to some extent, but if the teacher wrote something down on paper and passed that piece of paper around, I think it would end up the same. :2cents:

I'm not really questioning anyones faith, or if God (or whatever entity you choose) does or does not exist. Mainly questioning peoples trust that other people wrote the book accurately. Are accounts correct?
"There are three sides to every story, yours, mine and the truth"

The problem is, even though it is "written", interpretation can be very different from place to place and person to person. For example Cinderella 's glass slipper was actually supposed to be the "green slipper" and was translated incorrectly. How many times has the bible been translated/rewritten? Just sayin..... It happens all the time, in every type of story.

We have ample evidence to back up (completely independant) of the begining of the universe, that being matter and anti-matter in an ultra-high presure, ultra-high temperature, and became unstable.
There is zero evidence to suggest otherwise.
Untill then, we are a byproduct of the nature of evolution.

Show it to us. The beginning of the universe, according to you started with matter and antimatter in a high temp/ high pressure environment. If so that is not really the beginning, the antimatter and matter had to come from somewhere as did the environment.
