1995 saturn 5speed 1.9l

I have a 1995 Saturn, I have been having an issue with it not starting. It will not turn over no electrical power what so ever. I have checked all fuses in side car passenger side. It has a newer interstate battery that I tried on my wife car, works just fine. I get no headlight, interior light, horn nothing works. Sometimes with the key in I can get the chime to work when door is open but as soon as I try anything light dome light or horn the chime stops. Any I deas what the issue could be. My son said that when he was driving it today that it died on him going down road but started right back up after school he had nothing. No light on dash chime worked till I did the above mention items. If you have any insight please let me know. I am down to thinking it is a ignition issue. please advise.:banghead:

Start by checking your battery cables. Clean the battery connections. Check your ground connections. There should be several from the neg battery terminal to the engine/trans to the body. Trace your positive battery cable down to the starter then to the main junction box. Check the connection at the starter. It could be loose. Is the battery actually dieing? Get a cheapo volt meter. 12.6 volts is considered fully charged. Measure the voltage with the cables disconnected. Reconnect the cables then hook up the volt meter and observe the meter as you attempt to start the car. If the voltage drops really low, below 10 volts, as your cranking, you either have a bad battery or the starter is drawing too much current.

Hook up the volt meter across the positive battery cable. One probe on the battery end and one on the starter end. Then, disable the fuel pump and ignition systems and crank the engine while observing the voltage. If it's more than a couple hundred millivolts (.2 volts) you have an excessive voltage drop in your cable. Repeat for the negative cable. You can also check your engine ground like this. One meter lead to the negative battery terminal the other to a metal surface on the engine. More than a couple hundred millivolts means bad engine ground, etc.

The car doesnt turn over. I think i have a faulty ignition switch. Battery reads full charge on meter. Like I said the horn doesnt work either it is like all my power option for inside the car go through the ignition. I am going to order an ignition switch and see if that fixes it. I am also looking up the wiring diagram for the 95 saturn's to see if there is one common ground that i can check. I have to go out of town this weekend go figure cars always break down when you have something else planned.:grinyes: I will check the grounds you talked about and let you know if that was it thank u for the insight.

+1. Its not your ignition switch. Its your battery connections or grounds to the battery. Check the fuse box under the hood also for bad fuses or bad wires going in/out of the box.
