02 Impala won't start - Suspect fuel delivery problem

My wife's 02 impala 3.4L died on her the other day while heading to work. She said that it just shut off while on the highway. Completely lost power steering, radio, everything.
Had it towed home and now that I've got it here. It will crank, but won't start. I know the battery is fine, so are the cables. I have a good charge.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with the 3.4L or 3.8L possibly. I'm suspecting a fuel issue. The gauge reads 1/4 tank, but that thing is jumpy. I'm hoping it's not the pump as that is upwards of $200, but if that's what it needs then that's what it needs.
Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Fuel, Spark, and Air-- the three basics you need to run an internal combustion engine-- so put a spark checker on it, and then a fuel pressure gage-- then report back your results-- you can "borrow" these tools from Autozone if necessary....

Found the problem. It ran out of gas!!! lol, don't worry we're not lame or anything.
The fuel gauge was reading 1/4 tank, but in actuality it was empty. So there's something wrong with the either the needle positioning or something else.
Lately the car has been staying on FULL for almost 100 miles before it even drops below, so there's something going on there.

make sure she keeps the tank above 1/4 as you will need new fuel pump....then you will be able to get the fuel gauge working... usually running out of gas the fuel pump dies soon

yeah new rule of thumb with her car is never let it get under 1/2 tank, or at least try.

Yep I have 2002 Impala LS 3.8L that does the same thing. The fuel gauge just got less and less accurate over time and now it reads at 1/2 tank when in fact it's near empty. It's probably just the sensor on the fuel pump, but that stupid little thing costs $94~. I'll get around to fixing it one of these days.
