Won't start after car wash! Fuse?

I live in a cold climate, I just got Winny washed up and the next time I go to start, it will not start. It will not turn over or anything, just a small hum like a pump is going for a second of 2 after I turn the key. No fireing at all.

I suspected the fuse for the starter was blown?

I popped the hood to find my fuse box open, could the water have gotten in and cracked a fuse somehow? (cold, cold fuse, warm water = cracked fuse?)

The lights come on, interior and everything, so I am sure it is not the battery. (should I give it a boost anyway??)

Anyways, it just happened after I washed the van, so I am thinking it is related.

Also what fuse is the starter? I might have to replace it.

Thank you for any help you Winny owners can offer. :runaround:

My Windstar is a 2000 SEL. 160,000 kms.

Well when was that last time you've changed the battery and did you find the fuse box?The lid of the fuse box should give you an indication, but the box itself is usually beside, behind or somewhere around the battery. It could the starter relay not clicking in to engage the starter and that hum is your fuel pump your know there is power to that.

look in your owners manual. It will list the starter fuse and relay. The fuse block is to the right of the battery tucked beneath the drivers fender. Be careful opening the top as the cover will easily crack in the cold (ask how I know). I'd suspect the fuse first. If not, this could be the beginning of a new battery, starter, alternator, lots of ignition stuff.

Are the above components all OEM?

I have had similar problems with both my 95 Taurus and 95 Windstar where the ignition switch start wire at the starter wasn't making contact. It is a spade terminal connection and it seemed to become loose. After tightening the female side enough on both cars, I haven't had a problem in a while, hopefully no more.:)
