Vent Solenoid Location

I have been getting the 0440 emissions code and I want to replace the Vent Solenoid on a 2002 Impala LS.
The vent solenoid appears to be located near the gas tank from the blow up photo instead of within the engine compartment as someone indicated in a prior thread.
Does anyone have experience replacing one. Does the gas tank have to be dropped? Or is it located near the gas tank underneath the vehicle?
