2002 Impala quick strut - How to suggestions?

I have a 2002 impala 3.4 with about 110,000 mi and the driver side coil spring broke. It didn't seem like we hit any big potholes or anything noticeable. I plan on replacing with a quick strut assembly that has the spring included.

In replacing the old struts, did you just remove the two lower strut to knuckle bolts and the three upper strut nuts? Or do you also have to separate tie rod ends and/or any other components? Also any tips on how to pry the strut from the knuckle would be appreciated.

Relieve pressure off the strut with a jack and then remove the bolts that you mentioned. I think you can remove it as an assembly without compressing the spring. I only remember jobs that are huge pain in the butt....I don't remember much about replacing my upper strut mounts. :)

As long as the new quick strut comes with everything you can just unbolt, re-blot and then an alignment is needed. The strut is in charge of caster and camber.

Really easy job.

Jacked up front end till wheels off ground.

Trace with marker around strut to knuckle for realignment when reinstalling new quick struts (spring and strut assembly combined).

Removed lower strut nuts and then put back on finger tight to protect threads.

Hit end of lower bolts with small 3 lb sledge to drive bolts out of knuckle and strut (they're splined to keep from turning.

Then remove three upper strut mount bolts in engine compartment.

Wiggle strut and it will come apart.

reinstall.

New struts have torque specs.

Took about 2 hours. If I had to do it again it would be much quicker.
