05 Impala cooling problem

I've got an 05 impala, 3.4 The nothing fancy version. 2 weeks ago, the wife mentions the car will not heat up. I find low coolant, fill radiator and coolant tank. Car heats well for about a week. Then, mystery puddles of dexcool under car every night, dexcool is getting to belt and slinging. Now, temp gauge goes from normal to almost red and back again, cabin heat is minimal with surges of normal warmth when temp gauge normal range, loss of coolant, and still mystery dexcool puddles under car.
So I'm thinking water pump as I cannot find leak anywhere. Am I way off base with this, and if not, what am I up against to replace this myself?

your probably correct remove belt and rotate and wiggle pulley it should just rotate if it wobbles its n/g. also if under pulley its wet then this is probably it....after replacing water pump wash of all that coolant from componets and belt. may cause other pulleys/bearings to fail down the road....like a/c compressor bearing!

Ah. Thanks for the heads up on the AC and other bearings!
