The History Channel Porsche GT1 EVO

My first complete model for 2008. Had a few disasters along the way but the end result is decent. Not my best effort but it will look great sitting on my shelf. I've always liked this livery. Here is the WIP (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=719380).

Like everyone else, this kit was horribly warped. Some clamping and careful gluing helped, but its still a tripod. At least the rear deck can come off.... I'm also doing the white Mobil1 LeMans version, and it will most likely end up curbside.

Paint is Tamiya X-1 airbrushed, clear is Krylon acrylic. Following the disaster theme, the clear had tons of fish eyes in it which had to be polished out. It never ends.... In the end the finish came out quite nice. At least it's finally done!

The wheel fell off while I was giving it the final wax. This kit actually has nice details.

It's hot man! Very slick. Do you prefer acrylic to lacquer finish? How long do you wait for it to cure, and how easy/difficult is it to shine up to that incredible gloss you have there.

I've used both and gotten great results with each. Acrylic seems to be a little "soft" while lacquer dries and is ready to polish in a few days. I think I waited a week for the krylon, including 24 hours in my "dehydrator" and it was still a little soft. I always use automotive compounds and they seem to work great.

Great job. Interesting livery, haven't seen this one before.

Nice build, I didn't know there was even a kit availible for the History Channel version.

That looks very nice. I'm currently doing this kit, are than any trouble spots I should watch out for?

Nice clean job. Seems like the mold lines on the tires were a pain? You should weather the exhausts a little though. Either way looks like a superb build.

I´ve been having the same problems as you and now I´m following the same procedure as you were recommended to. Believe me, I was smiling with shinny eyes as I looked how it turned out. You were so frustrated as I´ve been with my models so far, but it finally worked!

I'm glad it could help you out! I have the white Revell kit that's been sitting in the box for over 2 years with a paint problem. Hobbies shouldn't be frustrating, right?
