Cruise control

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar that had some transmission work done last year. Since then, the cruise does not work. Any suggestions? Also, the person who did the work is no longer in my area.

Checke the fuse first. Then, look under the hood identifying all of the cc parts looking for disconnected components. Some use vacuum, be sure all connected. Look for disconnected or loose wiring connectors. Are you having any other problems? You should also check your brake pressure switch, which is connected to the underside of the brake fluid reservoir. It will be wet typically when not right. At the top of this forum is a sticky post detailing this problem. I think also the VSS which is on top of the trans can cause problems, but typically will produce other system problems causing codes/cel abs light on, but if you don't have those, than probably not the vss. From there it gets more complicated

Definitely what tripletdaddy (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=529664) said to check would be my first guess. I recently had mine replaced (brake pressure switch) along with the VSS and a new gear for it and a new TRS (transmission range sensor; aka neutral saftey switch). Unfortunately due to age and miles if it were me I'd replace all 3 with all the problems these vans are known for with transmission issues. The VSS and TRS specifically play into the transmission failing quicker over the long term and I know my VSS wasn't in the greatest shape either cause my speedo needle would bobble back and forth. It still bobbles very slightly, but much less so now that the VSS and gear are new (have to ask for the gear when ordering the VSS cause mine didn't come with it). I know my TRS was going bad or just BAD cause I had erratic shifting at high speeds and I'd constantly waste gas by having to let off the gas pedal and then stomp it again to get the van to shift into the right gear. I know it wasn't my tranny cause thats new as is the ECM and all other sensor codes are clear.

But most of all.... the CRUISE CONTROL FINALLY WORKS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I'VE OWNED THE VAN !!!

I just wanted to point out that there are no vacuum inputs to the cruise control. It is all electronic. You have the module located under the air filter area, the brake on/off switches and various inputs to the PCM including the VSS. Do you have any other symptoms such as erratic shifting or odd speedometer indications? The most common cause is the brake switch as discussed on the brake master cylinder.
