Im really into cars but just got into volkswagons, I know that the 1.8t is really easy to tune( well much easier to tune than a vr6, but not like a honda), but what i have heard is that turboing a vr6 would leave you with one bad ass pocket rocket.

I was wondering if anyone had any websites to go to with the information on turboing a vr6. and what turbos to use

My friend does turbo installs all day long. He uses ATP turbo kits. He also sometimes bores the suckers out to 3.2L and then adds the Canadian Passat 4 wheel drive setups on the the things. I myself used to work at a shop where we put on superchargers onto the VR6 (the Advanced Motorsports Solutions kits). We tried the Z-Engineering kits, but they did not seem to work the same.

Here is Tims web page.

thank you,

I am in Hercules CA, which is about 10 miles East up highway 80 from Berkeley. I work at the VW dealership in Berkeley. Before that I was the shop forman at a shop called Griffin Motorwerke. I have been working on cars for about 10 years professionally in the East Bay. I have known Tim Tomas at Tomas Sport Tuning since high school. He knows his stuff when it comes to conversions and/or upgrades. We used to be in a freindly competition over who could build the fastest cars. We were pretty much tied. He built a 87 GTI and dropped a VR6 into it, and I upgraded a 2001 Audi S4 to 400 hp.

If ya need more info email me.

GETTING BACK TO THE QUESTION!!!

You can get a Turbo kit for your VR6 at EIP tuning. I've been so confused for the past 5 months on whether to get a GTi 1.8T and do upgrades on it or get the VR6 and Turbo it. So I've finally decided to get the 2003 GTi VR6 and Turbo that badass!!!!!!!!! That car can pack a whole lot of Horses and Torque for a Pocket Rocket. Check out EIP's website at www.eiptuning.com

Eip has a shady reputation...

check out:

www.matrixengineering.cc

The matrix turbo system is going to be sick (if they ever get their manifolds cast!)

Hey!!!

Also forgot to include VF-Enginerrring. They have a turbo kit for the VR6's and their prices are not that bad!!!

WOW!!!

HPA Motorsports offers twin turbo kit for the VR6. That's gotta be really sweet!!! I might get back my GTi VR6 after all.

You're all a bunch of wankers.
you may not save any money, although it looks like I'll save over $1000 on my VR6 turbo setup by doing it largely by myself.

(1) research as much as you can about every aspect of turbo charging or supercharging
(2) once you know precisely what you want your setup to preform like (ie: racing, drag or street), then you can start picking parts that will allow you to accomplish that.
(3) with your parts list, start sourcing. make friends with some people that can get parts for cheap.
(4) ebay has tons of cheap turbo parts, but be careful that you get what you need and it is in good shape
(5) get your fuel mods and electrical (computer) stuff installed professionally, everything else you should be able to do (for a Stage 1, no internal mods)
(6) figure out what your tuning requirements will be, and get help if you dont know much, I will begin tuning on the dyno, then tune while I'm driving after that.

If you have lots of money to just throw at your car and call it your work, then go ahead, there are tons of places that all claim they have the best turbo setup available commercially, and I'm sure they all want as much money out of you as possible.

I'm thoroughly disapointed in all of you. Grow some ballz and be proud of the setup you've made largely by yourself. There's no pride in driving someone elses labour of love.

peace

OK come one come all for VR6 turbos. :)
Well the least expensive but nicely made and not cheaply done we have the Kinetics stage 1 turbo giving 245hp at wheels for $2200.
Stage 2. For the Kinetics is going to be like $800 more dollars with well over 300hp at the wheels I think more like 320hp

Then coming as our next contestant.
:grinno:
We have ATP turbos. I don't know much about them but they are around 4-5k giving around 300hp at wheels with stage 1.

Next we have HPA which as two versions. The 12 valve which is a single turbo and gives like 280-320hp at wheels and goes for like $4,800-$5200

EIP makes turbos starting at $4000 making like 300hp at wheels.

Those are the 4 most well known makers of VR6 turbos. Also go to ebay and usually they have home made turbos for sale at around $2,500.

Anymore questions refer to 50cent aka Brian on VWvortex.com
He had the fastest VR6 in the world which ran 9.69 in the quarter I don't know exact speeds but I know it was over 140mph.
