if anyone out there knows how to or has turbo charged a vr6 id like to know what it takes ie parts and rebuilding the bottom end and about how much it would all cost. im looking at getting an a3 gti or corrado and i wanted to know what the story is and how it all works.

Nah, the internals can handle it. At least to begin with.
All you need is a turbo, a turbo manifold, a wastegate, a downpipe, piping, a bov, a fpr, an oil pan and a chip.
It would probably add up to $3k +work. APR, EIP and Matrix have kits for the 12v, probably the best way to start. Or maybe a jy project?

thanks ive never gotten ananswer from sum1. how bout the conversion to 4motion that would be king of the street. i would like to in the long run make something of these sorts.

A european four wheel drive mk3 GTi VR6.
Very nice car, got the european Corrado VR6 engine.

unfortunatly i do. wasnt there some sort of corrado storm in europe in like 94 or 95? do you htink my corrado turbo is a good idea or is there something you suggest more?

Yes, they made 500 Corrado VR6 Storm's in 1995 for the UK market.
250 cars Mystic Blue Pearl and 250 in Classic Green Pearl.
They also made 6 Corrado VR6 Campaign's, also for the UK market.

And yes, it sounds like a good idea, if you can afford it :finger:

I was actually wondering the same thing as GTI. (About can the VR6 handle turbo). How much HP can a VR6 turbo pump out safely?

The engine can take 400hp+ on stock pistons and rods, and 600hp+ is possible.
How safe it is for someone to drive around with one is a whole other story :D

The Corrado SLC have a 2.8L VR6, The European Corrado VR6, Storm and Campaign have a 2.9L VR6.
The Campaign had a nasty interior (http://www.vw-corrado-club.co.uk/images/Camp1.jpg) and special badging. The Storm had different wheels (http://www.vw-corrado-club.co.uk/images/Storm_Wheels.jpg) and special badging.

the convert to 4motion would need a new trunk pan (from a euro golf)...

the rest should really bolt up actually...

there's a few cars that have been converted, and i don't remember it being all that difficult...

Fitting a Syncro system is pretty much straight forward, but still expencive if you want it done right.
Instead of using a fueltank/floor pan out of a european Golf or a Rallye, you could just cut a hole, and getto-rig a cover. And then use a fuel cell.

i know allot about 4motion but what is syncro? i am seriously thinking about saving up and doing this all to a corrado

Syncro is 4motion's presessor.
It's a mechanically controlled system that utilise a viscous coupling instead of a electornically controled clutch like the 4motion system.

you know the system im talking about though in porsches??? id like an in cabin switch to over ride the unit that could be fun. let it do its stuff then when ya wanna drive like an idiot switch it off. but i wanna know if there is any way to increase drive power to the rear wheels without sumhow making the car RWD???

Well, a Porsche is have the engine in the back, so with the same awd system as a VW, you would have rwd with awd when you have wheelspin.
So when the the center clutch is disabled, you have rwd.

I'll look more into it, but i'm kinda in a hurry now.

As i though, all 4wd Porsches use a viscous coupling, just like Volkswagen's Syncro system. This is a simple yet effective way of doing it on a rear engined car. The car stays rwd as long as the rear wheels doesn't spin, and you can easily disable the viscous coupling and get a rwd car to play with.

Unless you wan't to move the engine to the rear of the car, there is now way you can get a Syncro setup to pull more than 50% on the rear wheels.

Well, if you're not doing it yourself, I would guess somewhere between $6-8k. Matrix, RPI, EPI, Kinetic and others do it.
If you do the work yourself, it's as cheap as the parts you find, if you are lucky you can get away with $2-3k.

:flash: I have a Golf VR6 and I think it is good. And I owned a Corrado G60 before. I think the Corrado VR6 is your best choice. By the way, both of them don't come with TURBO.

i am well aware of the turbo status. i plan on adding a turbo to the vr6 when or i can get the car and the money for the parts
