Another Problem

ok...now my car won't stay started. I turn the key to start it and it starts up, but as soon as I let go of the key it dies. but when I give it gas while starting it, it starts. It only does it when it's cold. Does this mean that my key and tumbler needs replacing or possibly my injectors are clogged. I dunno. I would apprieciate suggestions.

Thanks!

pull up the carpet under your glovebox on the floorboad. you'll see a metal box with a L.E.D. that is your ECU. check for trouble codes. turn your key one click in the ignition and watch the L.E.D. for flashes. there should be 1 flash to let you know it's working, a pause, and then a series of flashes. count the flashes. then refer to the f.a.q./ecu error codes (http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/F.A.Q/F.A.Q.1.htm) page.

it could be a lot of different things. ecu error codes will help find the "needle in the hay stack" ;)

Yeah...I was going to check the codes tonight...I haven't had time to do it yet...so I just though other people might have had this same problem.

Thanks though!!!

it won't stay started unless I push on the gas.

I had the exact same problem.... turn the car over for the first time in a couple of hours and it would start, and then die. I replaced my injectors and it has never done it since.

yeh just check your ecu codes. It could be a bad sensor.

Well...I just checked my ECU and it's not throwing any codes at all...

Must be ignition problem or fuel injectors.

wouldn't it be throwing a code 16 if it were the injectors???

I'm wondering if it's just all gunked up, so I'm going to get some cleaner stuff and see what happens then...

My ex had a CRX that this problem happened to, but when he pushed in the accelerator it still didn't start, and he had to replace his key and tumbler... but I can get mine to start...I just don't want to have a long going problem.

don't buy those bottle cleaners. They don't work. Take them to a mechanic to get them cleaned. Try replacing your coil and rotor for your distributor also.

Sounds like bad distributor cap and rotor to me.

Well, as long as the key turns, it's not the lock cylindar, so you don't have to worry about that...

If it's anything to do with the ignition switch, it's most likely just the switch itself which bolts onto the back of the lock... But it doesn't sound like that's the problem at all.

I would also check your Main Relay, because I know those have a tendency to flake out and cause problems with starting the car...

Just fixed the same problem its probably the ignition switch behind the key cylinder.......pretty cheap from a junk yard....cuppla bucks.
