I have a 2001 Saturn SC2 (3dr coupe). I don't know too much about cars and would appreciate any help for a diagnosis of my problem! For the past few months, every once in a while, my car has trouble starting. Other times it starts fine. It isn't completely dead, it tries to turn over but has trouble. Eventually I can usually get it to start by pumping the gas and trying repeatedly. Once it is started it runs fine. This usually happens when it sits for a day or two. The other problem I had started just last night. I put the car in reverse to back up and suddenly the engine started revving, the RPMs and other dials in my car were going haywire. This happened again in reverse this morning. Drive seems fine. Are these two problems related? What could it be from? Please help if you can! :shakehead

That starting issue can be lots of things, but sounds fuel related, maybe needs a bottle of Techron or something. Any service lights on? Auto or manual tranny?

you might need a new CPS (crankshaft position sensor). they have been known to go.
as for the reverse....no idea haha

Have your battery and charging system tested. Low voltage can cause a lot of things to go haywire. If that checks out, have your IAC Valve checked out and while they're at it, they can clean the throttle body.

the PCM's in the saturns rarely go bad. its usually a sensor or a mechanical part that goes.
OP: have you replaced your ECTS?!?!
