I want to see more. I am curious, do you specialize in Ferrari's, or if your interest is to many brand and type of cars ?
I will follow this build for sure. Just one more thing, what was the paint color and brand that you used for this car ?
George Hi George, I don't know what my interests are really, anything that might make a good model I guess, supercars, historics, etc. The paint is Tamiya TS42 light gun metal, but for some reason it came out rather dark, which I like a lot, especially when it's nicely polished. I'm sure it will be a much lighter silver-grey next time I use it though, just like the cap on the can. And sorry for the slow updates recently, I should have wrapped it up ages ago, but I'm swamped with a new business venture.

Thank you for the reply.
I had done a Ferrari Modena 360 from Tamiya, and I used the same color you did on your project. But I noticed that a few weeks after the clear was applied, my paint was crack all over !
Since then I spray paint the paint, and spray the clear 15 minutes after. This way the paint and the clear evaporate together, and since then my silver paint is fine.
Oh yes, I have to mentioned that it only does that on silvers, and gun metal charcoal.

Mark, this is one super excellent work... I am so glad I could see that in person in Today's IPMS Kickoff Classics model contest in Santa Clara. I am just speechless... :banghead: Show us more finished pic.

Damn! Look at all the fun I've been missing:banghead: Wow, so much incredible work going on here - you guys are on fire, I apologize for not getting to your threads earlier.
Thanks William, it was awesome to meet you - the red Ferrari man!! Guys, meet William Chan, he's a genius from around here (I think), we were swapping some ideas at the IPMS show in Silicon Valley recently. More on that below...
There were a couple of things left to tidy up. Some minor details and what have you, and I was still unhappy with the 3rd brake light. I had an idea to get the multiple light effect. I tried different spray patterns, soft edges, hard edges, etc. It started to look feasible...
You'll see the yellow in the image I posted previously. Not really sure what it is, but I like the effect :)

I applied the kit transfer to get the black outline. Shock horror - look at it!!! The damn thing has the light pattern. Why didn't you rats tell me about this???? All I can say is DOH!!! :banghead::banghead: Seems this decal is multilayer with a light b/g and transparent red over the top. The b/g has holes in it where the lights go - you can't see it on the decal sheet because it also has a light blue background! And I must admit I think it's pretty good - better than my attempt. I tried the decal over aluminium foil to get the lights to shine up but they didn't - they just looked dull, so I went with the dark b/g of the car which is why the lights look dark instead of bright red, but it still works imho. Actually, I'm not sure which part is supposed to be the light, but whatever... :)

I applied a light spray of clear red to get the same shine and color match as the tails. And I applied the yellow tips which bring this thing to life imho.

And it was off to IPMS Silicon Valley Kickoff Classic - "The Winds Of War" theme!!! I'll post a thread on this event. It was superb, the models were awesome, the military stuff was insane!

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP14/IMGP0216.jpg
Yowser - I got it!!! Best stock, all scales. I was surprised the SLR got second - there were some seriously good models there. I did tart it up a bit though, with a snazzy looking heat shield under the hood, etc.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP14/P1010012.jpg
They liked the Ferrari, it drew a lot of attention. Again, it was all that shine I think! The judging panel was large, and they were taking things very seriously, let me tell you! To be honest I don't think anyone really noticed all the details and work that went into it, but it did look good with the open doors, etc, and the paint job which has a unique "shimmery" look - not really like normal TS42, but darker, deeper, purpler(?), weird!! It got one of the big awards - Best off the Showroom or Factory Floor Finish. Double yowser!!
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP14/P1010007.jpg
Now, I must mention William's gorgeous Minardi conversion. Best in Class, Best Auto, Best in Show!!!!!!!!! Congratulations WIlliam, beautiful job. The finish was outstanding. A bit light on for details, but it doesn't matter, still a beautiful job. William, I think they flipped the coin b/w us - did you see the big pow-wow at the end where they were going back and forth b/w our cars? It was funny. Anyway, great effort. It was a great show and great fun. I have to say though, I think some of the military models kicked our butts, but hey, there you go...

So I guess the 360 is finished. How do you decide though? I'm tempted to just add details forever. But no! It's time to move on and start a new car.

Congratulations Mark, awards totally deserved!
This was the first progress I followed from you and, as already told, I was amazed by your skill, technique and (especially) approach. With the Enzo from Steve, the best explained and inspiring process.
Please continue in sharing your craftmanship, thank you !

Mark, Congrats on the 2 well deserved awards..and glad to see this one finished..but now I'm depressed, because the wip thread for my 2 favorite Ferrari's are now over(yours and Steve's Enzo) All I can say is yours has inspired me to no end on my 360 Stradale build. This and Steve's are what wip threads should be like..lots of good photos and lots of great writing to tell us whats being done. Thanks for sharing on your build, and I look forward to whatever you have for us next.

A very excellent build and a very detail one as well. Congratulations on the award... you really deserve it.
Your build has really inspired me to detail my Challenge Stradale which I have a very hard time not to start cutting the doors and adding all the details like what you have done on your 360 Modena.

Here is some info on the scratch-built trunk. I realise you don't need (or want, lol) all of this data, but what the heck...
Styrene sizing in inches. Measurements in mm. The flat shelf at the top sits flush with the bottom of the windshield. Then it curves down toward the front of the car following the body line of course. The body has a .04 lining around the hood cutout, the trunk sits snug up against that lining.
It was basically sized to fit one of the wheels. But actually, the spare wheel sits on an angle in the Ferrari, so in reality the trunk is perhaps just very slightly smaller than my version. As described earlier I had to move the radiators slightly (the kit positions these incorrectly), and also cut into the suspension framing. Also, I had to bend the tie rod to clear the back of the trunk.
The bottom line is that I started with the top of this thing and some pics of the car and just scratched it out by eye. My biggest confusion was whether the sidewalls were vertical or on a slight angle. I went with an angle, but I don't really know if there is an angle there or not. It's impossible to determine this from a photo. I should have just visited a Ferrari dealer...
The floor is raised up a mm or so to make it level (it curves up slightly at the very front).
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP15/P10100021.jpg
30x30 (mm) fits a full-size wheel. All of the bottom and back framing is .03" styrene.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP15/P10100141.jpg
Note the top shelf sits horizontal and flush under the windshield, this creates a small gap b/w it and the body, but this is true to the real car.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP15/P10100151.jpg
The little piece on the left is a weird chopped up trapezoidal thingy - quite odd... In reality, the interior surface is fairly smooth, not as rough as the camera makes it appear. It's just flocking, but I tamped it down with water to get rid of the 'fluffiness' and make it look more like a typical trunk lining. It looks realistic. A little bit sloppy on the belts, but you don't see it with the naked eye.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x97/mrmodels/Ferrari%20360%20Modena/WIP15/P1010005.jpg
The trunk is asymmetrical. The shelf behind the electronics box thingy stops half way down the side, the other side has a full length shelf.

Hi,
This is one of my favourite builds on here. Great job!
The luggage compartment is great. How did you make the lip going round the inside edge?
