Fan Control - Blower Motor

2002 Impala LS - 106k miles

Approxiametely 2 months ago the fan control switch on the dash began to malfunction. Speeds 1, 2, and 3 all worked fine, 4 did not work well, 5 would work if you caught the fan control switch between 4 and 5. When the issue began it would intermittently not work at all...no speed. When this happened I removed the knob and lightly tapped the rod that holds the knob...this caused the blower to kick back on.

Yesterday it died completely...no amount of tapping seems to make a difference. I've also removed the knob and blown it out with compressed air...to ensure dust on the contacts was not causing a problem. The fuse is fine of course.

I'm fairly certain this is being caused by the fan control switch, not the resistor pack or the blower motor...otherwise tapping on the fan control switch would not have caused a reaction? Any advice would be appreciated...I cannot seem to locate a replacement switch either, checked Autozone and O'reilly websites.

Thank you in advance!

the switch you need and integral part of the heater control head assembly and is not available by itself. There are two different controls depending if you have the dual zone (CJ3) or standard (C60) HVAC system.

Yeah, realized the inability to purchase the fan control switch standalone today. I've located several complete units at local salvage yards for around $50...it's dual zone, GM wants $280 for a new one. I think a $50 salvage should work fine.

I'm actually going to pull the dash and disassemble the fan control switch this evening (I own a restoration shop)...some good contact cleaning might get her going again for a few days until I can make it out to the salvage yard. If not I'll hard wire it into the "3" position until the weekend!

Thanks for the response.
