1997 4x4 switch not working - need dtc codes please

1997 4wd Swtich Issue - Need Codes
Hello, Guys... I need help please. My 4x4 switch was not working. bought another one off ebay and still no work (no lights at all). I found fuse 2 blown (tcase) and replaced. Now the switch (both) will light up for 2-3 seconds after key turned on, but then off and nothing else. I removed the Pos lead on battery for several minutes, cleaned terminals and reconnected. I also removed fuse 2 for several minutes, cylced key on and off 5 times, and then started car, still nothing.

I searched here and found on the tahoe boards that I could ground pin 13 on the OBD2 connector turn ignition on and read the codes that way for the DTC. I am getting 2 flashes. The link someone had posted last year with the translation of the flashes is a dead link now. Can anyone tell me what I ahve now?

code 2 is the shift motor/encoder or circuit problem.
Check with dealer or a good repair shop.
I think some places are repairing the shift motor resisters.

OK, thanks... I read that other thread above. Yikes! Is there any part of that I can check first before having to replace this motor, etc? Is it possible to be a bad connection somewhere on this system? If I HAVE to replace the motor, is it someone that is decent mechanically can tackle, or is it something that a dealer is better off doing because of tools etc?

Finally, I have been driving it like this for the last little bit, but did not know what was going on. Now that I do, I wonder if there is any danger in driving it in this condition? Or is it just a matter of my 4wd not working?

The code says motor or circuit.
Circuit can be wires or connections or plugins.

Proper testing is the key word on it.

Dealers have been repairing some of them instead of replacing the moror.

A look at a good factory repair manual may help or a call to your dealer sevice department.
Also some good repair shops may be picking up on the encoder/motor repair.
The motor just bolts on to the transfer case.
I have never doe it but.
I asume the motor case can be taken apart and the resistor replaced if that is the problem.
If the transfer case is in 2W drive it is safe to drive it.
Just do not operate it on dry payment in 4W drive.
