2004 Chev Impala speakers not working

Hello,

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala LS with just the basic radio and cd player in it. Stock radio. The other day no sound ( NOTHING) would come from the speakers. All the lights still work on the radio as they did. It shows the radio stations and names of the songs, there are no other issues with the electrial in the vehicle. It has 113k miles on it and its a v6 auto.. Please help

It almost seems like the radio was put on mute some how!!! thanks

I think the amp is located under the rear window shelf. Open the trunk and look under there for any loose wiring.

It almost seems like the radio was put on mute some how!!! thankslook for my other replies as to this problem,way back about 4-5 months ago,in the rear of your car in the back pass side,take off your molding and lift your carpet up and you will see the wiring harness,unrap it and look for the orange wire that looks like a fusiable link where it goes 2 orange into 1 orange wire,it is rusted and corroded,cut the wires off and jion them with a new piece and your radio will work again,it is common in these cars,they all break off there so just replace it and it will work,this is the maimn power wires for you sterio

I just wanted to Thank You for your knowledge, and thoughtfullness to figure out these type of problems and to share them with auto dummies like me. The problem was fixed in less that 30minutes and I can honestly say that I neverwould have figured this out without your advise. I am amazed at your kindness to share these type of repairs. I know this is a long past thread, but my daughter's 2000 Impala LS has this same radio problem. I had a hard time finding the wires you are talking about. I checked in the trunk first and then had to take half the passenger side trim loose to find the loom of wires. I do not really have a lot of room to open the pack and find one set of wires. Is this the correct place to look? There is not a lot of give to the pack of wires and I only saw (hard to see all of them) one orange wire. Let me know if this is the correct place to look and also if there is any easy way to get at all the wires. I had the center trim post between the doors off and the door sill trim loose too. From what I can see, the wires take a turn up under the back seat and go back to the trunk area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

*passenger side, beneath the carpet running along the door jams is the wiring that runs to the back of the car. it's just a ton of wires taped together.

*near the door pillar by the back door. (do your work from the back passenger doorway) you will need to pull up the carpet, open the wiring and find the orange wires where it splits from 1 into 2. there is a wiring clip located at the door jam that will give you more room to play.

*1 orange wire leaves the dash, 2 enter the trunk, find where the 3 meet.

*this is the bad connection. it will be obvious when you see it.

*cut, strip and crimp them back together and problem is fixed.

most of us with this car have had to make this fix. it's a 1 beer job, and a bit easier if you take the front passenger seat out gives you more room to work.

What's the best way to remove the molding from the floor so that I can pull up the carpet?

I'm dealing with this problem now. How much of the molding to you have to remove to find the wire loop in question? I've read on another board about taking practically your entire interior out to do this and it ain't worth it.

I thought about trying the bypass thing, and getting another stock amp from a salvage yard, but the wire thing seems like the first option, and hopefully a fix if I can pull it off. Besides, after looking at the amp I'm not even sure if I can take it out without tearing it up. Looks like it needs to be removed from the top rather than from the trunk to get it out cleanly.

only the strip along the floor of the rear passenger door frame "needs" to be removed. but that doesn't give you much room to play under the carpet.
in my opinion, taking the 4 bolts out for the seat makes it a lot less stressful. especially if you solder and heatshrink it like i did.

OK. Does loosening the seat work well enough, or do you have to take it out all the way?

I read somewhere that you're supposed to disable the airbag system before you do that. Is that true, or is that being overcautious? And if so, how is that done?

Radio finally crapped out completely earlier this week. Sure sounds like a short in wiring the way it fizzled out and back once in a while.

On the bright side, at least I was able to successfully replace my rear passenger side outside door handle, and it didn't look too bad with my ghetto spray can paint job.

Well, I've dug up about 2 feet of wire bundling in the alleged target area and there are gobs of orange wires, and none of them so far seem to be meeting with a junction in the general vicinity it's supposed to be.

The only wire I found that's been spliced is black. It's one thick black wire and two thin ones, and it splices into four wires. That splice was covered with electrical tape and looks OK as far as I can tell. It's right in the spot where the orange wire is supposed to be spliced, but all I can find are several skinny orange wires, no thick ones.

What if I bypass the amp with one of those harnesses? Does that do anything to help me get sound out of the radio, or am I still screwed?

Not that anyone is reading, but I never could find a bad connection. So as a last ditch effort I ordered the amp bypass deal for $12 on eBay, plugged it in and suddenly I had radio. Working like a champ for about three days straight, after it had been totally silent for about a week. It sounds different, but OK after I changed the bass and treble. All four speakers are honking just fine. The only weird thing is the front/rear fade adjustment is reversed, but that's no biggie.

Anyway, maybe this will save somebody some time. Try the bypass before you start yanking the trim and pulling up all the wires that you'll have to jam back under the carpet later.

the two orange wires and he one will be in the middle of wire buddle, look for the black duck tap, that is where I found mine. I stripped the all three wires. turned the radio on, then connected the wires, my radio worked for the first time in two years. I left the radio one while I put everything back to together. 2004 impala front speakers not working (tweeters are working).. The whole system works except for the two front bass speakers. wondering if the under carpet wires on back floor (passenger side) could be involved here.. have reseated both connectors in the trunk and have visually inspected the wires inside both doors. Anything appreciated..

My own answer: Seems the contacts in the door speakers were only corroded a little. After opening the pax door speaker unpluging the speaker and hitting it with a little spray contact cleaner it's working nicely. Next time I'll get out the soldering iron and get rid of the plugs altogether..
