I will try to make this brief. I have an 2000 impala (3.4) with approx. 123000 miles. It seems to randomly leak oil, the oil does not leak at consistent rate. anyway I have read through several of the post on this forum and have come to the conclusion that LIM gasket could be the reason the oil leaks. I am going to replace the lim gaskets anyway (due to mileage) but it just doesnt set well with me that this is the reason of the oil leak. by no means am I a auto mech. but i do have a little mechanical understanding. just looking for others opinions on this matter before i start on my next weekend project. By the way it appears that the leak is somewhere on the front of the engine but i have a dime size spot of oil every so often on my driveway that is dripping from the rear or where the motor and trans meet area of the car.

Clean off any wet oily areas and try and trace the source, there is no way to help out in this environement, oil leaks require on site analysis.

welp, i have cleaned everything off as good as i can get it and it appears to be the lim gasket. I am going to replace it as soon as i get the additional tools required and print off some of the previous post on this topic to use as add. guides. Is it common for the gasket to leak only on the front of the engine? The front was caked up while the rear was pretty much in showroom condition (for 123000 miles). Thanks for the help.

These gaskets really are not a source of oil leaks, pay attention the the plug/adapter/drive where the old dist used to mount under the throttle body, this is a source of oil leaks.
