make sure that you have correct thermostat installed. when flushing remove thermostat.

I've had the same issue with my Chevy Venture vans (3.4 L engines also,) as have some other members who have these vans. My temp would go way up almost to Hot especially waiting in drive thrus, but would drop back down once normal speed was resumed.Beginning to wonder if perhaps it may be an issue just with some 3.4s if no other issues are discovered to be causing it, thus being considered "normal operation".

The ECT that turns the fans on is calibrated to 220-235 degrees, so unless the A/C is on, the fans won't come on until it reaches that temp.

Is there any way to reprogram it? And if it is the wrong thermostat what is the right temp for the thermostat

the correct thermostat temp is 195. if the temp rises when in traffic only, put a/c on to cool engine. I believe you can put a switch in, to manually force fans on. you will need a wiring diagram to do this. if you program pcm for fans to come on at a lower temp you should not reduce temp on too low.
