There's gotta be a somewhat excluded campground around the cities, its in MN for christ sake! Half of the state is nothing but trees and swamps.

If you want a secluded campground, theres a really nice one in cannon falls, you can even get secluded sites if you want, and they have nice sized parking lots. And plus the security there is crooked..... me and a bunch of friends rented two sites, and filled a tent with tons of booze and....yea, and this cop showed up out of nowhere and saw everything and just asked us how we were doing and ditched, it was awesome....we were so wasted, half the people never noticed the cop was there, lol! GREAT TIMES!

Thats what we need. A nice place to party and talk about our passion and not be frowned upon. Lol. Im sure there is more than one place we could do this at. Ill look around. Im sure there is something in Brainerd. Crow Wing Lake has like 10 camp grounds on it. (About 8 miles out of downtown, and about 5 from the track.)

sorry to lazy to read the whole thread. but I am for sure going to a AF DSM meet this year even if I have to go alone :-)
Here is my idea: Are you guys set on BIR? I know LSE performance would love to have us. (which could be the meeting place) we can Dyno and grill there. There are quite a few hotels in the area (one 2 miles away infact). Otherwise I know a great camp ground we could hit up that is about 40 min from there...I thought the 40 min would suck...but I think a 40 min cruise with 20+ DSMS would be pretty bad ass not to mention it is mostly freeway so we don't have to worry about getting split up.
thoughts?

Any updates on this one? Did we find a set location? Dates? Anything yet? The South meet (although coming up already) is a little more set in stone that the North meet here. Lets get going.

Hey all. So those southern tools are about ready to meet up, we need to get our shit together! ;)
This year we are for sure going to have to get it together. I think last year we started planning too hardcore too soon... but its almost April and we should start getting shit together for it.
We have the same laundry list of questions to answer: where do we stay, what do we do, when do we do it, etc. Here's what I would like from anyone planning to come:
Name: Real or nick name
Car: Year, Make, Model, Trim
Coming From: City or general region
Preferred Time: General time (i.e. middle of June or any time but end of July) and what days work or dont work
Preferred Activities: What things you do want to do or dont want to do
Preferred Place To Stay: Camping or hotel
Preferred Length of Meet: One day, two days, or three days
I think that we for sure gotta wait until the summer sets in to do it, that way people are out of school and have some money in their pockets from summer jobs, time to get some last minute stuff for their setups, and it'll get to be warm enough to sleep outside should we so choose to do so. A preferred general time is good to know, also whether you can get off work during the week or weekends or if there is any days you absolutely cant do it.
As for activities, the sky is the limit. Obviously, a trip to the track is one possibility, as is a dyno day. Otherwise there is Mall of America, Hooters, cruising, etc.
But yeah, if everyone that might want to come would post up, that would be great. I'll try to get some useful info on things to do, and I'll post up when I do.

Brian, it would be in Minneapolis or the Minneapolis area. It would be a haul for you dude, probably a solid 12 hours or so.
I did some looking for stuff to do and am putting it on a map. I'll post up in a few minutes when I finish.

Ya for Brian I believe when we were figuring it out... it's like 6 hours to my house, then another 6 to MN. I'd be the mid point... resting ground if you will. lol. It's going to 13-14 hrs for me to go South, so 12 isn't that bad.

So here's some of what Thor found so far....
Brainerd International Raceway (http://www.brainerdraceway.com/)
-Wednesday Night Street Drags - June 25th, July 16th, August 27th
Drag track and road course both open, cost $20
Rock Falls Raceway (http://www.rockfallsraceway.com/index.php)
-Test 'n Tune - June 14th, June 28th, July 12th, August 2nd, August 16th, August 23rd
Test and tune from 9-3:30 for $69 (or $50 a person if 5 or more come), bracket racing after that for $30
Dyno days should be $60 for 3 pulls whether we end up at DB or LSE as long as we get a the minimum (pretty sure 5) people to come.
Hotels are all around, but I have a feeling we'll end up camping.
-Ham Lake campground is $27 for the campground and $3 for everyone after 4.
-Lino Lakes $15 per campground
-Lake Maria State Park $12
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8576/northmeetcopyjj3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I guess I thought we should get one of those campsites on the north side of the cities. There are more throughout the cities, but I figured the ones on the north side would have the most convenient access to any of the speed shops and BIR. Also, I'd prefer we go to BIR as it would be cheaper and I think it would be a blast to have a crack at a road course.

Hey I didn't even think about that... I could come up there on the weekend before the meet and then I could explore Chicago during the week and then we could hit up the meet from there. That would probably be the best way for me to do it. I'm saving up my vacation time for this. I have 42 hours saved up so far and I have to put vacation time up in May for anytime during the summer. So we definitely have to get this thing figured out by the end of May so I can make it. I'm thinking I'll just take two weeks off from work so I can have plenty of travel time and a few extra days to myself. lol...
If I don't use any time at all though, I can have nearly 100 hours saved up by the end of summer... That is very tempting to do also because I could just keep saving until next spring/summer and take off an entire month and still get paid. Wouldn't that be sweet?... If I'm still at this job for that long. lol
So, count me in as long as we know by May when it'll be going on this summer.

Alright ladies... lets get this rolling. South meet has come and gone and its time to focus on the North Meet now. I believe the South was the 1st AF E/T/L meet (or at least recently) and it was a TON of fun. So, I'm excited for the next one. Here's what we have so far.
Location - Somewhere in MN obviously. Final location seems like it will be picked by what we decide to do
To Do - Seems like everyone will do pretty much anything, dyno or track. I personally want dyno now that I've had my taste of it ;) but is up for the track. Only problem with the track is that I really don't want to be waiting in line for hours all day with 100+ cars from all over. Someone mentioned a place with dyno and grilling... that'd be super hot!
Living - And again based on location and what we're doing, will also put the whole where we staying inplace. Seems like everyone is up for camping. It'd be cheaper than hotels and more fun. Fire, booze and food are a winning combination.
Time- I would personally like to aim for August as most people should have their cars done and running and ready for a roadtrip should they be traveling a good distance. And then a weekend, like Friday-Sunday or Monday whatever would work good for me and I think a lot of people from what I've been reading. Less days off from work the better, although I will have a part-timer actually filling in for me by then. Anywho...
And I believe there's only 3 people for sure coming. We need more. Again, post up info as shown above.

Meh, guess I just get into it. One time I was running 3 at once, one with sausages/brats, one with burgers, and one with steaks. Beers consumed on job - many :)
EDIT - plus I used to cookin gfor large crowds 40 - 50 ish.

Awesome. Sounds like fun. The last couple years everytime I was out at a friends BBQ I became the cook at everyone of them. Means I must be something right. And now with my own place, time for some crazy-style BBQing. And drinking of course. And there's like 5 meals a day, not 3

I think it's only Blackcrow that would be up here, mostly as a passing-through-type deal.
I hate propane grills, but have you ever made Bacon for bacon cheeseburgers on a propane grill? Now that's difficult.

That's what the side burner is for
It's a ying and yang thing, some things are good on gas but not on charcoal, and some aren't so good on gas. One of these days when the price is right I do have to get another smokey joe for chicken and steaks, I can get them done on gas but it just lacks the over all flavor, even with briquettes. I tend to piss people off sometimes (wife mostly) becasue I slow cook with gas. :(

And I am sure a few others will come out of the woodwork later.
I think we agreed on a weekend, correct? Then it depends what we want to do. July 12th and August 2nd look to be the best Rock Falls track days, even if we decide not to do it, we'd have the option.
So what do you guys think? We could meet up on Saturday, camp Saturday night, and head home Sunday afternoonish? Rock Falls has test days both days so either would work for track time (I think Sunday would be less busy) and I'm pretty sure we can get the dyno open either day as well. I guess I'd think we should either:
A) Meet up Saturday like midday for an afternoon dyno day, maybe hit up some Hooters or grill in a park for food, cruise for a bit, and head back to camp for some alcoholic beverage consumption. Then Sunday we can get up at our leisure, make some breakfast over the fire (I call dibs on breakfast cook!), maybe hit up MOA, and leave whenever.
B) Meet up Saturday midday or midafternoon. Maybe cruise Minneapolis a bit, grill out or go out for food, MOA, whatever, then go back to camp and drink. If we do this we'd want a camp on the east side of Minneapolis so the drive to Rock Falls is easier/shorter, then we can go run there for a bit and leave midafternoon.
I would love to hit the track, but you know what? Rock Falls is a LONG ass way from home for any of us if we break, and I feel like a dyno day would be less strenuous on our cars. I guess I'd rather go with A. I agree with Dave, we should wait until a little later in the summer so people have a chance to get their whips together, but we cant wait too long because I have a lot of shit dropping at the end of August. Does July 26-27 or August 2-3 work ok for anyone? I'd rather do August 2-3.
Also, if you far out of towners would rather meet up Friday afternoon/night, I bet we could swing that. I get done with work at 3:30 so if I left here at 4 I'd be in Minneapolis around 8 and any reasonable meeting spot by 8:30.
EDIT: If you have a friend you want to come then thats cool, but lets keep it to mostly AF'ers. I have one buddy that might want to come, either in his RX or just ride shotty with me. I think if people wanted to bring a friend that would be cool, but lets try to keep it at one. Sound good?
Ok, so far we've got:
Me
Scott
Garrett
Dave
longemoco (contacted me via MSN)
wrightz28?
Brian?
July 26-27 works best for me. Def. not the 12th cause that's the weekend before my birthday, and I'm taking off the 5-10 of August for Wefest and I don't think I could get off the weekend before that also. I don't really care what we do, the Eclipse will be gone by then and I'm 99% sure I won't have the Talon done, but I'll def. be rolling in something special, I'd def. like to see it on the dyno, but I wouldn't mind a track day either.

I'm up for dyno as I have to break my goal. Not really up for track, but either way I really don't care
Anytime is good for me.
I'd rather take off that Friday and cruise up there like I did for SC early Friday and then just check out everything and then spend 2 nights out there.
My g/f is coming, but riding with me.

Wright can't get on AF right now due to ass hats at work. So he is wondering if you guys are still going to hang or whatever. I am going to give his email to Blackcrow so he can work it out. If you want a message to get to Wright pm me and I will pass it along.
Sounds like a kick ass time wish I could go

Yessir, we still are looking to do it. Looks to me like its going to be July 26th and 27th, right y'all?
Actually Blackcrow64 (Brian) doesnt have internet either, he just moved and I believe it wont be until next month that he can get it. He's still on from time to time when he's back at his parents house but I think thats more along the lines of once a week. If you'd like you could give him my email as well, I could fill in for Brian while hes gone.

Actually I PMed Gold already. Brian is going to come up here first and meet up with me and it seems like me him and Wright will meet someplace then and BBQ or something out here. So any info dealing with the "1st checkpoint" as I call it I'll take care of and relay to Brian. I call him all the time (when drunk) so he's informed.

Ok, so when are we planning on having this then? Any estimated dates yet? I have several weddings to work around this summer now and I have to go to them because I'm in some of them...
Once I know, I'm requesting off work for it and just telling them its another wedding so that I can actually go to it. lol

Haha... No, I'm just too lazy to read all the posts... But I actually did tonight and July 26th and 27th sounds great! I'm off naturally that Fri-Sun so it works out perfect!
Right now I am in a tight financial spot so it makes it even better than we are having it later in the summer like that. Count me in for sure! Even if I'm not rockin the Talon then I'll at least be there via the Cobalt. Just be sure to keep me updated!

So whats the deal on this? Are we planning for July 26th and 27th then? I need to know soon so I can be certain that I'll be off even though I'm supposed to be off that weekend...
Who all is coming? We need to get this thing organized so it isn't a flop like last year...

Yeah, I am game for that date. I think I had a list of expected people earlier... you, me, Dave, Scott, Garrett, longemoco (changed his user name), and rock0134. Camping and dyno day? We can start meeting at the camp ground whenever, I think Dave was going to head over and stay here Friday night. If we can all be there by like 3-4ish we can set up camp, grill out, then maybe cruise for a bit before getting bombed? Then hopefully we can come to around 10, get breakfast, head to the dyno maybe at 1 or 2, maybe hit up some Hooters action for some dinner and take off after that?

Sounds like a plan. For sure on me being there Friday during the day.
Make sure you get the camp grounds a couple weeks before... not the day of.
Keep it going!!

Ok, why dont we plan to get a campground in like the middle of June. That way we are sure to get one, but its not too far out where people forget or to close where they cant get off of work. We can talk to some place about the dyno day at the same time. I think DB and LSE have the same rate for a dyno day, $60 for 3 pulls, but we have to have a certain amount of cars. Also I think DB is going to be easier to find, plus it'll most likely be closer to us.
Are people going to want to cruise Saturday night? I'm pretty split, I think it would be fun to just sit, eat dinner, and get drunk but I also think it would be fun for us all to roll together. We could get the best of both worlds too, Porky's is a landmark for 'car guys' in the Twin Cities, we could just go there and have a burger, then take the long way back to the camp ground for a little extra cruise/highway action before getting tanked.
What about booze? Who all will be 21+ that night?

Thought I would chime in here... My car has a solid 2500 miles on the new engine and is running good. If it keeps it up I want to meet up with you guys that weekend. Yes I'm over 21 and I thought about bringing a bunch of brew from our local brewery so you can try some REAL beer.
Anyway, I have my 50 trim on the way and would like to see a dyno run with it. Don't count me in for sure cause my car can be a bitch sometime and decide to take a month off....

I heard LSE closed but i dont know know how true that is since i dont really do bussines with them, but yeah they should do $60 for 3 pulls but like you said maybe we have to get like 10 cars or more.
I like the porky's idea since i've never been there, i just hope we dont get chased by cops, i heard that's a hot spot for street racing too.

Sounds good on everything so far. I doubt I'll dyno cause I don't wanna beat too hard on the car because I've got too far of a drive home to limp all the way. lol... Of course I'm of age too... I think we could do some Saturday night cruising and hanging out. Like you said, the best of both worlds...
I'll probably request a few extra days off work for this little trip so I'll have off Thursday-Wednesday. That'll be a nice change of pace. :)
