Ok where to start first off I had wanted the car as a young boy, I have drawn the car before the from time to time the move would come on SPEED so., I was lucky I taped it when I got the nerv to try and build it. when you pause the tape there are lines going over the images so at the time I first was thinking of building the car I put the build off for a long time, well here we are in the 2K Generation and I now have a DVD recorder and still I could not use the images from the tape so when I got this PC was the thing I needed so I found a site that had the move on DVD. An still I put it of till now I got my self into a build Off called TV/Move cars' Build off. So I tock some time and looked around the Web or Net to see if any one had built it yet (NO Luck) but good luck for my I want to be the first to do it in 1/25 scale. (I hope I am)
Well these are the images of the build that is still on-going. ( I will give text under the images)

the model was built in all black then I sand of some of the black to build my baby!:grinyes:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up3.jpg
The First thing I thiought I should do is flip the dash to right hand drive.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up1.jpg

Here I found the wheel's in a 57 chevy kit the engine comes from the vette kit and the intake manifold comes from a 37 street rod. Here I al-so started on the flip nose hood.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up9a.jpg
here's that cool custom hood from the move. Now I did not use a ruler to get the size of any thing I just guessed at the shapes and sizes.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up9b.jpg

Well I stoped there An started on the engine.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up5b.jpg
Here I needed a Auto tranny not a manul so I cut off the stock one and found one in a Chevy 454 kit (AMT) that fit.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up6.jpg

Here I thought I was going to start the paint job but I didn't like the way the body of the tranny looked so i put on some detail that would make it look more like the one in the move.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up9.jpg

I went an painted the block till I could get the tranny looking the right way.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up23.jpg
Here I started in on the wireing of the motor and the wires are all in the right places!

this one is like the move shot.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up30.jpg
Like the Truck i built I went for the real look so I'm going with the peace by peace look on the Belt.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up31.jpg

I used masking tape for the drive belt like the truck.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up39.jpg
Well at this time I need a coil so I made one using my moto drill.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up40.jpg
Once that was done I painted it Fl black and put it on.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up44.jpg

Ok the engine is done an the fan will go on after I fit the engine to the chassis, I would hate to put it on then find that the fan will not fit.

Time for the Body Work:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up47.jpg

Here I sand off some more black paint so I could use the glue on the finder flairs.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up49.jpg

Now the Bowtie tail light.

I had to close in the under side like the real car.

Yep It's taking shape.

That Crazy Custom Hood:
To keep things on the real side I must get the hood right. This thing scares me. I hope I get this right.
here's a good link to see the full 1:1 car an you can make the car spin around to see every side of the can. Now that hood.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up70.jpg

I'm starting on this side so It will be Ez-er. So that is where I'm at as of now. An rsxse240-Ken I'm thinking of making a mold of it. Once i get it close to paint time and the shape looks ok i just mite do that.
So if any one dose not like the car or like's the car, feel free to tell me what you think. I'm going to put up some screan shots of the car from the move when i get closer to paint time.
Thank's for reading and looking.

Great start. I remember this movie from when I was a kid, I always loved this car. I saw the movie recently and realized how customized this car really was. It wasn't until I saw the movie recently that I noticed it was right hand drive. I'll really be watching how the hood comes together as I think this is the focal point of the whole car. Will you be doing the bitchin van too?

I never liked that corvette, but it looks like you're doing an amazing job replicateing it so far!!! Keep it up!

Hehe, Corvette Summer is proof that the "riceboy" mentality of overdone, garish style was present waaaaaay before the first Civic with a 4-foot Supra wing!

Awesome transformation though. The engine is looking great and you're going to have something truly unique when you're done. You're doing a great job of scratchbuilding. You are very brave to freehand!

Very cool! Your work is going well, and it's cool to see a build of this car. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of anyone building it. I'm glad you are - brave enough to tackle it and skilled enough to do it. If I remember correctly, the hood was asymmetrical? I might be way off on that, but if it is, what a favor to model building! I think the nose might be a little to long, if I might make a little critique. In the screen shot of the car from above and to it's right, the nose seems to be not much longer, if at all, than the car's stock shape. Otherwise, you've got it spot on! I will be watching this eagerly! Keep it up.

I haven't got a clue about the movie - but it doesn't matter a damn :D

Very enjoyable to watch you going about bringing your idea to life
Good luck and I'll be cheering you along.

man, I'm VERY excited about this build, I can't wait to see it progress!

Barris did quite a job on the real car, and it appears you are definitely doing it justice.

Hi!

Great build of a really weird looking 'Vette. Never the less you're on a roll.
Not to disencourage you, but you're not the first to build it.
A fellow modeller here in Sweden (Hans Kihlén) built it in the 80's (I think?) and you can see it on the first page from Mini-Meet 2005 (http://niclasproos.fotopic.net/c702219.html) in Västerås, a small town in Sweden.

Good luck on your quest.
Niclas

Edit:
Found a picture that Hans himself has put up on Wheels Magazine

Thanks for showint modeling from over there. An no I'm not disencouraged I'm just going to do my best to get the model as close to the 1:1 car as I can. Some things rong on his car.
1. The T-top should come off.
2. On the hood Scoop on the (looking at the hood head on) left there are 6 vents not 5.
3. On the bowtie it said (Stingray)
4. The color is spot on for the Promo car from the EBay Auction.
5. The pipes coming from the engine and out the side are right on but the long side pipe is not right.
6. the side rear view mirrors are close but the mirror arm was chrome.
7. The Interior was tan or some type of light brown not FL- Black.
8. T-Top clear color was smoke black not amber.
9. No mesh screan's in the vents.
As for doing it first my hat's off to him in Sweden. As for me I'm in the U.S. (Where the car comes from)and I want to do the car the best I car not just to be the first but be the first to get it dead on, and be the first in the US. Hay don't think I'm mad or any thing I'm glad you showed it.
As for that hood I think your some what right Will but it's the one thing that I dreded doing I think I mite try doing it over.
Here's a link to see the Promo car from the Ebay Auction:
http://www.mamotorworks.com/mygarage/cars/corvettesummer.html

Ok guy's I have looked over the length of the nose and Will's right on I must short'in it a bit. I'll be posting the new pix tonight but first I need to walk my dog. Vent's are done and I will post soon(Be right back).

Tiger I see you like to buid a lot of stock model now I see why you don't like it (You like the stock 69) Stock is boring with no originality or character. But as for you del NASCAR/ Del Jr. build I like that I coped the images so I can do one for my self. the build to me is your best. An you need to get the Dino finished I love that car. Squadron offers that kit an I'm go to get that one to.
As for people likeing the sting Ray a lot of people are asking me to make a Resin Kit of it.
Hay if any one knows of any on that has built the gold version an the van, Datsun please post what you find. I'm going to build the Vanessa van, Datsun to (IT'S A DATSUN!!!!) (I was told it was a vette) said by:Mark Hamill aka Kenny in the Move Corvette Summer.

I laughed my ass off when I saw this thread!!! I am an absolute fan of this movie and this car because it was so damn ugly!!! I used to search for it on dish years ago just to show my woman and others how cool (uncool) the movie was. That car was a fiberglass nightmare back then but damn is it cool. I so want to watch the movie now and that is good to me, lol. This build is coming along great!!! Styrene is the best thing for modeling, period. No other product allows us to make these things. I am so glad to see this you have no idea!!! 5 stars hands down!

maybe you should've spent the half hour it would've taken to measure and draw everything out properly before cutting and glueing, especially seeing as you say you want it to be accurate.
From what I can see, the bonnet "thing" is not exactly symmetrical and the intakes and vents are far from being uniform.

white_R34
11-08-2007, 12:46 AM
OK drinken monkey you seam to know a lot so you tell me how am I to measure a 1:1 car the a I have no physical contact with. An I did draw it out first time but like any thing we all make mistakes. An the Bowtie thing as you called it is close as I could get it Free handed I am going back a sand it in to shape.
I guess you draw every thing out on your PC first an make shore every thing is exactly symmetrical. Well I dont have a big time PC software program to help me be exactly symmetrical. (HAY!!!!) where is tha fun in doing a project like your a Company. I'm small fry here. there are a lot of modeler's out there that do there best with what they have and make some mistakes from time to time. As for me trying to get it as close as I can to the Real car I think I'm doing ok. As for your commints I see you don't like the car. an that's cool by be. I'd love to see your work. I guess every thing you do is exactly symmetrical, I realy need to see how it's done by a master like you!

drunken monkey
11-08-2007, 09:06 AM
Not measure the car, measure your styrene.
You are also perhaps a little too messy in your cutting of the styrene which results in their non-uniformity.
If you take a little more time to be tidier in the first place, you wouldn't have to spend so much time afterwards fixing it.
It's all about what you would accept from what you do. Me, if it aint right, I would do it again until it is right.

Being symmetrical here is only a matter of making templates of one side of the shape and flipping it around. I didn't say bowtie, I said bonnet. The thing I was refering to was the bump/bulge/thiny. The line done the front is way off and this will take you more time to fix after you've built it than it will to get it right in the first place. This will be more true if there is no material underneath the join there to support it.

And so we get back to the "show us what you can do" thing.
If I can't do better, is that an excuse for you not to not do better?

Where did you get that I don't like the car?

white_R34
11-08-2007, 01:38 PM
Your commints say a lot on where you stand one this build. Have you ever bean told if you don't have any thing good to say a bout a thing don't say any thing at all. I guess if your lived way back in the past and saw vincent van gogh painting and some of his work is not as you put if exactly symmetrical you would have a problem with if to. Doing a custom Vehicle is some time not an exact art, as for word and the way we speek them your in (tha) = the (UK)= United Kingdom I'm in the (US)=United States. Your say Pub we say Bar, you say tele .............ok LOL I don't realy know what that means is it telephone or television; as I herd it (I got it off the tele) I'm lost on that one LOL. An you like of weard American cars is not that strong. an that's OK. I takeing the time to look through your file and (Not like you) I'm not going to put down on any thing you have done in any way. Rather your work is "exactly symmetrical" or not. I Like the your Ferrari Dino, as well as your Jag's. Your Vette was realy well done. But remember you have read that there are folks on here that are willing to buy a resin for of my car an as long as they like what I have to give that's all that matters to me. An that's the end of "this" issue. Now back to more Vette building.

Now that I like the way the nose look's I'm going to start on putting on the putty and sand is smooth. then I'm going to sand of all the ruf parts on the inside an make the first mold. Once I start that I will post every thing I do from the making of the head lights cups to the making of the molds. You know now that I think of it the mold will have to be in 3 part's for the body an my be 2 part's for the hood. Oh and one more thing I'm thinking of making a mold of the hood scoop by it self to see if I one day can make a New Version of this car out of the 2007 vette. Even if the car look like a cross between a vette an a ferrari. A lot of us over here in the us say that about the "new vette."

All I was doing was trying to point out an area that needs more work and time before you get too far into this. If you choose to take it as a personal attack, so be it. I have been working in art/design/architecture for the past 6 odd years, not including study years. It is practice to point out the bad things so people know where and what needs work. It is in part why critical assessment sessions (shortened to "crits") are often the most dreaded part of any study and professional practice. If no one told you what was "wrong" what good is it?
Anyway, no water and all that (whatever that saying is...)

By the way, you mean to say that the search is working for you?
It hasn't worked for me in months.

First I think this is shaping up to be a pretty good build. As the owner of the real car said, this thing is ugly, but people can't take their eyes off it.

Modeling IS about trying things and learning while building. It IS a HOBBY! People who cut others down for not being up to their standards need to STFU. The only place that kind of judgement is acceptable is on the contest table and then only if it's done constructively.

Additionally, if you read the articles with the movies producers, they say they specifically made the car NOT of the highest quality so it WOULD look like something someone did in a high school auto shop.

I am looking forward to seeing this model done and applaud white for taking on the task. Build on, its looking fine.

drunken monkey
11-09-2007, 11:13 AM
OK, yes, fine.
I'll STFU.
From now on, if I ever see anything on anyone's builds that might need a bit of fixing before they prime and paint or cast it, I'll keep it to myself and just chuckle to myself when they come back later and mention how it isn't quite right but it's too late to fix it.

No matter what, someone will find something somone else says offensive. It all depends on your own mood when you read it. When I read it, it did sound a bit harsh, or rather, direct and to the point, with no "softening agents" so to speak.

Now that all that blah blah blah is over with....build that dang vette! haha

I think re-doing the front end was a smart move. Drunk monkey is correct, in saying the vents in the hood scoop are a bit out of shape from one another, but I wouldn't have really noticed had someone else not pointed it out. It still looks good.

11-18-2007, 09:58 PM
First I needed to get the A160 out the way now I'm back on the vette. I have to come up with away to have the hood flip up and make it so I can make a ez mold of it. Once that part is done I will put on the putty an sand then make the mold of the body, hood. All the thing's that I do I will post the pix of.

:frown: Sorry it has taking so long to get back to you all but I'm closing in on the end.
So far I went to doing my putty work I started out with Testors White putty to fill mager gap's, thin I went back over it with the same putty to fill in the low spot's an dip's, but :banghead: I did not get that smooth feel that I needed so I have gone over the white putty with Testors Red putty to fill in the realy small dip's & crack's it smooths out better. I went back an put in the (Windshield brace) that's what I call it. the white plastic rod was use is to push the body a-part (Once I removed it the first time to do body work the hood would not fit properly. Now that's it's back in the hood fit's just right. As for the last sanding I have to do you see the image here. Once I get it smooth, I then will do a mold of the hood first. I have a guy here that want's the hood scoop for a truck he's work on.
Well with out further adieu here are the latest image's of my work.
(Oh yes sins AF dosen't like you to do back to back post's I had to start a new thread.

:nono: I know some of you are going to say I should use some othere type of putty like Tamiya or something. I have not used that yet but I will start trying it in the Future. As for this project the stuff I have used here is working ok for now.

Ok you guys & girls here's a up date. I not have the frount windscreen brace done. I "GOOFED" up on one part of the build the rear gass door I filled it in. an yesterday I was looking at the move and saw that the door on the gold one as well as the red one was still there.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up108.jpg

So I had to go back a scrape out the lines. Now that I have done that I think doing it make's the lines around the gass door look better than before.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up109.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up110.jpg

An as you can see on the gold one the door is stock.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up111.jpg
I know some of you my be thinking, what about the checkerd flag emblem on the gass door I'm going to use MCG photo-etch set for that on the gold one.

An here's some thing I found out, (like one of you pointed out) The move car was build to look like a kid in high school built it an some of you said that some of my stuff was way off LOL well the nose of the real car was off.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up107.jpg
so now that my nose is just right. On to the hood vint's, I fix one of them and It was not the one's some of you thought it was; well any way the one I fixed made all the othere's fall in line.

Now on to the rear tail light the Logo Sting Ray is not like the original '69 Sting Ray it's custom like a kid did it.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up105.jpg

I'm going to put on some Testor gray primer #4630 just be for I mold the two body parts.

That is one impressive engine you made there. I really like all the brackets and lines. The hood with all those vents and angles and edges looks really daunting but very interesting, you must have a lot of patience. Looking forward to seeing it with paint on it. Althou I have known about this movie for years I havent seen it yet. It sure is such an interesting model that I might just have to watch the movie now.

I have to admit there are a ton of talented builders here, but this is completely bad ass to me! I am so glad that you have made this build. Like I mentioned before, I am so into this movie/car. I completely bow to this build as it is awesome. You still gonna cast it?

Now, just build a scale Mark Hamill, Kim Milford and Annie Potts then you are done. Wait, you gotta build the Stang in it as well. Then set up the final showdown in the desert with the broken down Vegas road. I think I need to watch this movie again asap.

As for the trans am a lot of people tell me to do that car to. Here's a list of the cars I'm going to do after this one is done.
1. The Move car itself The Red Corvette Summer (Stingray)
2. The Stolen Stingray in Gold color
3. The Vanessa Love Van! (Chevy Van)
4. The "It's a Datsun" Datsun 280 ZX colored like the red vette.
5. The Black Phatom Trans Am.

I'm not going to do the teacher's Suburban Truck color (Tow tone Light brown/Dark brown) I think the car's I listed are the top car's from the move. what do you all think?

If any of you that want to get your hand's on one of my Stingray Resin kit's. Please E-mail me So I can how many body cast's I need to make. Now I know about the guy from Australia his on the top of my Export list. But as for the US I need to hear some thing from all of you. But I still have some E-mail's from some of you on here. Once I get the first mold's done I will post the resin copy's for you to look at. Now I have to ask you the one's that want the kit? Do you want the full kit that's the 2 body parts seats side pipe's Head lights & tail lights. stuff like that or to you just want the body? That's the hood an rear body.
Let me know just what your looking for. in an E-Mail.

Hello all an "Happy new year" Well I'm now working on the mold's, I know what some of you are thinking what is taking so long. I have a lot of projets that I'm working on now that's what.
Well the firts body part (Hood) molde is in progress and pix.
1. In this pic I see that I needed to add more rubber to the mold.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up118.jpg

Once that was done I let dry over night.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up119.jpg

Now it's time to put on the Rubber to Rubber mold release. ( you can get it in a full kit or get in by it self. (The one that comes in the kit is on the left)-(The one on the Right you get off the store self).
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up120.jpg

As this is my first Body mold, Now I see why resin model's cost so much. It takes a lot of rubber to make the molds'; well once that is dry I will put on the sec. layer then i will start to make the hood's from that mold. Then I will do the body next.

No you dont need to read it all over use the get the '69 corvette coup kit from revell.
Here's where I'm at now, I have poured the tope to the body and ran out of rubber. Then I got some diff-type to get the job done.An then I jumped on the dash and seat work. here's are all the pics. (You know I have used over 4 cans of rubber to do this resin kit; and I still need more.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up146.jpg

Once it wan dry and all the tape that was the base was removed, I then brushed on the R to R release. An let dry
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up157.jpg

The sec. layer of rubber came out pink in color.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up169.jpg

Wile we wate for that to dry. I got the one seat ready for molding. First I need to tell you all why there is only one seat!
When I was work ing on both seats I ran out of the Half round styrene strip. An I used the next size up from that thinking it would work. It did not so I thought use the first seat that came out well and mold it to finsh this build.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up160.jpg

The seats in the car from the move had a long sides the reach up to the head rest. So I had to make my seats look like them.
I cut the top corners off the old seats to build up that web back look.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up161.jpg

I filled and sanded.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Corvette_Summer-Build-up163.jpg

thin picked the best one.

An added adjuster nobs.

On a right hand drive car, the pedals are arranged the same as on a left hand drive car. No matter which side of the car the steering wheel is on, it's clutch -> brake -> gas from left to right.

Otherwise, looking great! I can't wait to see how the cast comes out, and the final products.

When I get my builds done.
Well now I have some time I will work on the cars till the 5th of next month. Ok I have the cast's of the dash bord's and seats.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects3.jpg

Now I've just gottin the parts sanded off and will paint the interior tub, to night and post new pix tomorrow.

I thought the T-top looked a bit bad so I re-made it.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects8.jpg

Here I'm showing you some old images, I have just gottin the bodys sanded and will start that paint job tomorrow along with posting new pix of the finished chassis & engines.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects2.jpg

Here are the chassis painted and the engines. Oh I have casted some new valve covers and I had to plate them as well.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects4.jpg

I must say the platting came out well on the parts, you will see later. I'm going to work on this project late to night so I can post more pix for you all to look at. Now I do have one (BIG) Problem, I still have no idea of how I will flip the nose up. That's is the one big thing that has made me come close to quiting. But I will get these cars done, "flip nose or not".
Oh one last thing I'm going to use (PE) Photo-Etched parts in the interiors., but Not a full amount in both. (Just some in one) And more in the mane car (The Red One)

Ok new finished engine pix.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects10-1.jpg

Ok I know have the interiors close to there end. I have yet to place the foot pedels and 4 point seat belts. Once that's done the interiors will be done. Oh I used a MCG (PE)set for the mane cars steering wheel.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects11.jpg

I'm sorry for the back to back post as If I wat till some one post. I would have to keep starting new threads to keep going so I'm at the end of this build any way. An again I'm sorry for having to do this. Here's what I have done to day.
I have all the seatbelts done (Sorry for the ruff look of the seats). You know I keep finding things to fix and I'm sick of that.
I had to go back and fit the side pipe holes then add to the T-Top and now I'm goin go to have to build on to the fire wall. Well see for your self.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects16.jpg

The side pipe holes are to long.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects17.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects19.jpg

I filled the space in:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects20.jpg

Then went back a put the engine on the chassis and use a Alum.Tub for my drive shaft.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects21.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects22.jpg

Once I got the side holes fixed I built the headlights.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects24.jpg

I don't know what I would do with out those putty tools.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects27.jpg

I added to the T-top on both cars and on the gray one I made a new lower windscrean brace.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects28.jpg

Ok now both engines are on there chassis. An it's time to do a test fit to the body with the interior.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects29.jpg

Well well looky there some thing I need to fix now or add on to. Oh well the price I have to pay to make it look good I guess.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects30.jpg

Well now that all I realy need to do is the fire walls I will start on the paint jobs tomorrow. Oh just one thig I need to tell you all in the move the stolen car that was re-painted gold did not have a gloss finish on it. It's was more like a Gold base cote and the flames where hand painted on Pin stripe style.
I still can get it in my head how to make the part that will let the nose or hood flip up. Any of you got any Ideas? Here's some shots of the finished bodys with the hood up on one.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects33.jpg

Oh and onw last thing I found the kit that has the right type of wheel. I just can't find the kit any where elsa othere than ((Evil-Bay)) aka E-Bay.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/stingray-car_shots4.jpg
Here's some shots of the real car.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/stingray-car_shots1.jpg

I know some of you remmber at the start of this build I thought I was the first to build it and I had the BIG head about it. Well my head is getting bigger once again I now see that Im not the first I'm the 4th to build the car. But I am the first to build Two of them at the same time and I'm the only one that has done and showed the engines. No one any where elsa has done the gold version. So my head is back BIG once again.

It's great car (if you like the 70's look). Your model looks good, however, why oh why did you rush the casting of the seats and dash without cleaning them up. The copies look so rough it detracts from all your good work so far.

Hay Big Kahuna I was looking at the move last night an I see that the interior and the seats are not all in a leather look so I went back and Flocked the seats and sanded the front part of the dash all I have to do now is paint it.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects47.jpg

I also went back over the head lights to make them look the right way. On the Real car the lights sit back pass the side turn lights So I added on to them and made them thicker and know I will mold them.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects44.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects45.jpg

Ok I have the Fire Wall caps built now it's time to paint them.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects42.jpg

I was look in through my spare tire box to get some tires that fit the wheel's I'm using as the one you have seen in the images I have posted are to big and I only have the one set.
See the small gap around the outer edge of the wheel:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects39.jpg

I tryed AMT truck tires and don't like the look.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects40.jpg

((AHHHHH))!!! found a two sets I like and there both Good Years. I don't know what kit they come from yet. I will let you all know once I find that out.
Oh I also made some resin copys of the wheels so both cars will have the same look.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects41.jpg

Ok I do a lot of paint jobs I don't know why this one is hard for me but this is the two ways I could do the job you all let me know if you think I'm on the right track.
Ok My paint job styles. I can paint the mane car that will be the red one.
1. You can paint the body Met. Gold base, Let dry then mask the flam images off and paint a clear candy red over the Met. Gold base pull off the mask, let dry all of it dry. Re mask the edge of the flam and put your airbrush on fine setting and paint around the edge of the mask with clear Orange and then a Clear cot over it as your last step pull off the las mask and that is it for that way.

2. You can paint the body witha Met. Gold base let dry., Next paint over the Met Gold wht clear candy red Let dry. Mask the flam images on the now dry Cl.red.
Paint the Met Gold over the red let dry and re mask only the edge of the flam paint around the edges of the new masked places with Cl. Orange pull off and put on a Clear cot over it.

So you all tell me what you think.
Oh and as for the Stolin car from the move it was just painted a solid Gold color and that will be the first one I do.
Here's the Red I want to use over the Met gold base on the Red vette.
This is a project that I used the same paint job tha I will use on my vettes.
Gold Base:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/CustomDodge_Project6.jpg

Clear Tamiya Red over the Gold Base:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/CustomDodge_Project13.jpg

The paint I want to use for this paint jobs are:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects46.jpg

So you all tell me what you think about how I should pait the red one, I will paint the gold one first as it's paint job is the easy one to do.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects43.jpg
Oh and one last thing befor I let you all go I will have to plate the T-Top base as I don't think trying to wrap foil around it will work well so I'm going to use Alclad II Chrome ALC 107.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects50.jpg

The next images will be of the full rolling finished chassis and the painted bodys. I need to get to work on the paint jobs right now.

I have no idea how you're gonna do that paint job, but if you pull it off it will be incredible. Would decals help out? Well, I guess I'd try painting it too - you gotta suffer for your hobby :)

Get one of THESE (http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=83651) and cut some very THIN tape for pin striping.

Now, here's how to go about it:
First, paint both cars gold (as you stated the "stolen" version was not shiny, right?)
Next, lay out the pinstripe tape that you cut with your parallel cutter on the gold paint. WARNING! if the gold paint is not a lacquer based, or some kind of durable single stage paint, the tape will mess up the finish of the gold, so a clear coat may be necessary for the tape to work on the gold finish.*
Then, mask the body where the lighter red will be by laying some good masking tape right over your pin stripe mask work, and VERY CAREFULLY cut the tape to expose the area that will be dark red.
Now, spray the dark red, let it dry for an hour or until it can be handled VERY LIGHTLY! carefully score the red paint where the top layer of tape and your pinstripe tape meet to prevent the paint from pulling up when you lift the tape.
Now is the tricky part. you have to mask off the dark red in order to spray the lighter red. you obviously don't want to just stick some tape on your freshly painted dark red paint, so you will have to let it dry.....for a LONG time, at least a couple days. Perform the same steps in masking for the light red as you did when you masked for the dark red. Spray your light red, let it tacky up and remove all your tape.
finally, clear coat, wetsand, clear coat, wetsand, clear coat, buff, and shine, wax after a few weeks/months.

end result should look very good. I don't have any pics of the bike that I did (hiyabusa(sp?)) but I used the exact colors you have there, and it turned out A-MAZE-ING.

sorry for the LONG post, but I felt it necessary since you are going into such detail with these, you should not just settle for decals....Barris did it with paint, so should you. lol

-Ken

edit*

the scenes in the movie with the "STOLEN" car were likely filmed when the car was going through paint stages, and the fancy red paint was applied after the car was then "recovered" I don't think Barris made more than just the one "Corvette Summer" 'Vette.

Rsxse240 Sorry man I just got back in here to read what you put up yesterday and I had dont the paint job on the gold car. To day I have done the paint job on the othere gold flacked car. I wanted to show you all the red car first then the gold one. But here's where I am at right now.
Oh it's going to be a lot of images hope you all don't have dile up.
First I painted both bodys Gl-Black as I will be using pale gold from Alclad II
and that stuff is some what clear.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects52.jpg

Ok I want to do my T-top init's chrome look first.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects51.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects53.jpg

I know I know why did I do that? I can that's why, I'm good like that LOL
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects56.jpg

Both car tops were done that way. Now time for the gold paint jobs.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects54.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects57.jpg

To keep going on that I pulled the hold mask off one car and put in on the othere.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects58.jpg

Ok now for the ((Flack job)) I'm using micro flacks from Pegasus Hobbies:
http://h1070012.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=PGH1075
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects60.jpg
mixed with testors High Gl-Clear. for the red car's paint job. As for the gold car I hand painted the flames on, with a Loew Cornell #10/0 JS Mid Liner paint brush.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects61.jpg

I used a heavy flack paint job on it:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects63.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects62.jpg

Now the plane gold car stays the way it is, till I put on the flame pin-stripes.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects59.jpg

Ok now to make my flame stencil put the shapes on the same type of vette and layed my clear HOK mask over it and trace over the lines and cut them out and put them on the flacked car. Oh and now at this time I have already pin-striped the othere car.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects65.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects74.jpg

Once I pulled off the asking I see that there are a lot of paint bleading on the edges so I had to fix that quick.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects75.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects76.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects77.jpg

Ok how I fixed the paint bleeds I used X-20 tamiya thinner and a Q-tip I dipped the Q in a cap and I didn't let it get to full of thinner and like an Eraser I just rubbed off all the blers.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects78.jpg

I then went back and hand painted the edges to clean it up a bit.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/WIPs%20Car%20and%20Truck%20types/Corvette%20Summer%20Stingray/Twin-stingrays_Projects80.jpg
