a 5.0 is a 5.0 is a 5.0 right??? so.... my question is can i run an aftermarket intake manifold for a mustang on my GM?? the car is a 90 and the TB is off the drivers side. where a mustangs faces teh passenger side. can i jsut swap directions of the intake??? i dont see why not. the bolts and runner setup looks to be the same either way. i want to get some better performance and it seems that all the performance goodies are only for a mustang. the cams and stuff obviously i can run as well as some of the other things. so mainly i am jsut wondering about the intake.
thanks guys. you ahve helped me a bunch on this car and i've only had it a week:D

It'll work but you have to move the battery and make sure no hoses are in the way.

Since you are changing the direction of the intake, you are changing the direction of the air intake hose. It will now need to be run through the battery tray. Instead of behind the driver headlight, it will be going behind the passenger headlight. If you modify the intake hose, then you won't have to move anything.

Yeah, what he said. Wait a minute, you mean putting the upper intake on the lower so the throttle body is facing the drivers side? I've never seen that before, it'd be cool if it works. As for the hoses I put a dual intake on my 460 (kinda like a '64 thunderbolt) and I had to get longer heater hoses 'cuz the intake tube wouldn't sit low enough with the hoses in the way. Plus, on some models there's a valve that clamps on the fuel rail that the upper might not clear, hoses that go to the throttle body and the wiring harness for the IAC and TPS, among other things. And if you get a high rpm intake you'd lose torque and the stock converter and computer wouldn't make use of the high revs.

the mustangs have it facing the pass side. mine faces drivers. my question was can i use aftermarket mustang parts IF i set it how mine is? will the manifolds swap like that?

i am jsut looking for a better flowing replacement manifold. i was thinking along the lines of either a stang HO mani or an edlebrock replacement. nothing to major unless i build the snot out of it.

Man I've seen a lot of custom shit, but I have never seen that before. It looks like it will bolt up, but you never know. If you end up trying it PLEASE let me know if it works. Here's a thought. Why not convert to carbureted induction?

i will take some pics of the engine compartment tomorrow and post em of my stock setup
as for the carb setup i HATE them. i have a couple cars that are carbed and they are way to touchy during the winter. my caprice, both my darts and my power wagon are all carbed and cold mornings suck.

What all are you gonna change besides the manifold? There's not really anything wrong with the stock manifold. The manifold will probably outflow the stock heads. They have that thermactor injection crap, right? The valves are barely 1.80/1.46 and the cam is only .237/.247 lift, which is like .375/.390 at the valves with the stock 1.59 rockers. Just changing the intake tube to a cold air type would do a lot, the stock one is small.:2cents:

thinkin cam, roller rockers, and maybe heads if i can find some decent ones. thinkin cobra heads and intake if they would work. and yeah its got the air injection crap and i have emissions so its gotta stay. even though it passed without the belt on teh pump. i also want to get teh AC fixed and some other things. i would love to run duals BUT its got new single exhaust from the manifolds back. so untill it goes south i am stuck with single. and i am thinkin bout a cold air system but i need ot figure out how to isolate it from the rest of the engine compartment in order for it to do any real good. otherwise i will be sucking warma ir and thats no good:D

Actually, I don't know about where you're at but in Texas once the car is 25 years old it is considered a classic and you don't have to pass emmisions. Do ya'll have anything similar to that? And if it passed w/o the belt, then screw it huh?

yeah 25 yrs and its emissions exempt. but his thing is only 17 so far, so its got a long ways to go. and yeah it passed without the pump BUT only after taking it like 70 HARD miles to heat the cat up bigtime. i realy want hte AC working as that is the main thing that doesn't work on the car.

no problem. :D teh AC doesn't work due to a bad compressor and clutch. you might be able to see it in the motor shot from the pass side. the clutch came apart in my hands and teh compressor itsself is on its way to seizing up totally. nothing a new compressor wont fix.
