I am going to be replacing the tumbler on a 1989 ford windstar
my concern is if i remove the screws on the underside of the steering column is that going to trigger the air bag in any way shape or form?????
Where does the airbag actually come out of .?
Is there any surprises I should know about when I am doing this project ?

Welcome to AF.
You have posted in the Chev Blazer forum.
The air bag is made in the steering wheel horn button and say SIR on it if it has a Air bag in there.
To disable the air bag/bags remove neg battery cable for several hrs or overnight.
To be on safe side.
Some ford key tumblers have a small hole under the tumbler that you can release the tumbler by pushing a small punch in the hole and turning and pulling out on tumbler.
Good luck

That's true for the '96 Windstar. The ignition key needs to be in the on position.
