99 Saturn SL-parkiing brake

The parking brake in my wifes 99 Saturn SL seems to be broken........the button you press is gone and the handle itself moves up and down easily. It seems as if the cable snapped?

Would anyone have a general idea of the repair cost if the parking brake has indeed broken?
