Umm.. I think it's under like...Error codes, or something like that. I can't remember. I was never the one doing it, I was the one watching it.

you dont have to but you should keep your first 02 sensor and IAT sensor...it'll just make your car run better overall

Lefix
10-26-2007, 11:14 PM
I see, sounds good, im gonna buy a bung and have my shop put the stock 02 sensor back in... Whats the IAT sensor?

Is that the sensor that is in the intake?

jakegday
10-26-2007, 11:36 PM

now you're going to need a new sig lefix..

Lefix

14.4 is my guess....

Lefix
10-28-2007, 07:30 PM
I hope i can do better than a 14.4, all those time and money into the car...

jakegday

can't wait until i go down to the drags and see what i can run...
ditto, im sure we all have been waiting for that day
you mention "all the time and money put into this car" you gotta remember its just a sunfire, not a sports car, its not designed for performance, GM was not thinking 14 second quarter miles when they designed this car, im not saying its not possible, its completely possible, you most likely will make it into the 14 second range, but just dont be tooo let down if your expectations arent met right away

Schister66
10-28-2007, 09:07 PM
well good luck...i hope you prove me wrong

Derk_eliso
10-29-2007, 02:58 AM
i give him an extra .1 sec... 14.3.

First run = 15.1
second run 14.3
third run 14.6 <-- water on the track caused you to slip at the start...

wouldn't that be sweet if I were right lol

which turbo do you have?

Lefix
10-29-2007, 10:39 PM

yup, after that stupid flame war between you and i lefix, i haven't checked this until now. so you did it ( in the process of ) congrats... i think.

Lefix
10-30-2007, 03:17 AM
Yeah its basically tuned and ready to go, little rich on the low RPM's tho.. gonna put the stock 02 sensor back in and re-tune alittle and it should be perfect...

Derk_eliso

Turbonetics/Garrett Air Research t3/t4 hybrid turbo...

It's like the the t3 base (Garrett) with the turbonetics spool

That tells us absolutely nothing...literally thousands of turbos fall in the "T3/T04x" category. And what the hell is Turbonetics spool?? IMO turbonetics sucks

After talking with people online about their turbo builds, most of which never happen, i found that being an ass is about the only effective method. I have to give criticism and direction to people because there are so many self-proclaimed "turbo gurus" online that its hard to distinguish good info from bad info. Most people regurgitate the bullshit they hear and reguard it as fact...

10-31-2007, 08:25 AM
Mostly its a money issue with people not finishing these, trust me i am having that issue with my eco one. Primarily due to needing a lot of small stupid shit that i cannot get a hold of, and this small stupid shit is a fortune at the dealership.

*sdm module
*headlight wiring harness
etc.

Yep...one of the few. Most people like to talk about it online for the attention and i swear every time i bring my car out to go "ricing" with a few of my buddies, someone looks at my car and has to tell about their amazing "plan" to turbo their car. I guess after a while, you just stop caring and dont believe anyone's "plan," but good job to those of you who actually finish it

Yeah i know, i still in the middle of tuning it, i just put the stock 02 back in and now it runs at 14.7 all the time and i havent been in boost yet to see what the AFR is under boost cuz i dont wanna blow anything up...

does anyone see any pictures yet? I'm wondering if i'm the only one who isnt seeing anything....hmm

Its cuz im not done tuning it yet, after i put the stock o2 sensor back in, it just ignores all the tune i put into it, it is adjusting the fuel on its own now and i can let the computer do that, I HAVE to adjust the fuel for the car..

So now i dont know how im gonna go into boost and rely on the computer, im gonna disable the sensors...

Lefix
11-05-2007, 08:48 PM
Okay, i turned off the "Closed Loop Enable" function in hptuners and its back to how it was before now.. but i think i suppose to run the car in closed loop and only when im in WOT it should be in open loop, ugh, oh wells...

Derk_eliso
11-06-2007, 12:14 PM
so having it untuned prevents pictures from being taken? have you seen my car domain?... It was a mess for a month, with progress pics being taken.. WAIT that's what it's called Progress pics lol.

K here you go you losers  j/k you guys are cool..

DERK!!! YOUR DAMN TURBO IS LEAKING.. AND IT HAS SHAFT PLAY TOO, WTF MAN.. do u know the sizes of the turbine and the compressor side? GRRRRR.. :shakehead

Haha, really? Why lol, but thanks :grinyes:

Derk_eliso
11-09-2007, 02:14 AM
nice... 90% sure it might be the blow off... Had to play a lot with the blow off. Try tightening it... also might be the wastegate. There was zero leak for me, so it has to be something else. Maybe a coupler problem... and, no I actually don't know the size.... I'm sorry that sux. Looks nice.. too bad I can't really see the TURBO that much lol.

Derk_eliso
11-09-2007, 02:19 AM
whoa.... you still have your IAT sensor???... eee....

and where the fuck is your filter??? I'm having trouble following the air flow... take pic of the turbo itself...

1991tercel
11-09-2007, 04:07 PM
A. Where is your air filter
B. The computer thing on your strut tower fits nicely on the inside of the car. (will free up some room)
C. what the hell are all of those red wires for

Schister66
11-09-2007, 07:31 PM
not to shabby...if you want to Felix, take pictures of the turbo and i should be able to give you specs on it. Looks good...good luck!

Lefix
11-11-2007, 03:33 PM
The thing is, my AC line is in the way of where the air filter would be, and i dont know if i should bent the metal line and then put the filter there..

Second of all, the leak isnt boost leak, its oil leak, and my exhaust is smoking when i stop at a stop light, its running at 12.5 AFR at idle so its not being too rich, i think the turbo is leaking oil...

Thanks guys :D

Lefix
11-11-2007, 03:43 PM

Yeah i still have my IAT sensor, why?

Lefix

Heres 2 close up pictures of my turbo... i think the turbine is a .48AR, i dont know about the compressor tho..

Its leaking so i think i have to get a rebuild kit, but i dont know anything about rebuilding turbos... :banghead:

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/FlexHehe/DSC01096.jpg

One from the side..

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/FlexHehe/DSC01097.jpg

I hope you can figure out the sizes cuz its leaking and my shaft moves back and forth :banghead:

YIKES

Schister?

Schister66
11-17-2007, 05:06 PM
It looks like an internally gated Super 60, but i cant tell the ar on the turbine side...it doesn't really matter as long as you know what kind it is. Blaast performance does rebuilds...i would just search "turbo rebuilds" and see what you find

Lefix
11-17-2007, 07:56 PM
Yeah it saids that its a .48ar turbine, i bought a rebuild kit and gonna try do it myself :P

Schister66
11-17-2007, 08:28 PM
just remember that turbos spin at 40,000-120,000rpm. They are precisely balanced. If you take it apart and put it back together correctly, you wont have problems. I would suggest marking the blades on each wheel. The compressor and turbine wheels seperate, but are balanced as a pair...good luck

Lefix
11-18-2007, 12:09 AM
Hmm i see... the guy that sold me the turbo rebuild kit gives free balancing if you buy his kit, so i probably will send it to him or maybe i will have it done here locally..:P Is it hard to mark where the blades are at and put them back at the right spot?

1991tercel
11-19-2007, 04:37 PM
I would send it off if i where you.

CavLCD128
11-20-2007, 08:35 AM
you never learn anything if you dont do it/break it yourself. Trust me.

1991tercel
11-20-2007, 01:44 PM
Cost of rebuild and have it done correctly is ALOT cheaper than buying a rebuild kit, fucking it up, and having either someone re-do it or have to buy a new trubo. Rebuilding them is not that much.

Schister66
11-21-2007, 04:12 AM
you never learn anything if you dont do it/break it yourself. Trust me.

This isn't one of those things that you can just jump into and put together as you want...if you decide to "figure it out" you're going to need another rebuild once your rebuild fucks up....just hope you dont ruin one or both of the wheels and/or housings

Lefix
11-21-2007, 12:34 PM
Yeah i know, but isnt all i have to do is replace the bearings, the gaskets and the seals on the turbo? then have someone balance it for me?

Isn't that all i have to do?

CavLCD128
11-21-2007, 01:06 PM
i would ruch mather (get it?) break something and pay double for it, and leave the situation knowing what i know now, rather then just paying someone to do it for me.

I installed my B&M STS in my old cavalier, and i broke the clip that holds the rods to the links on the STS, and i ended up paying Chevy 120 bucks for a new Shifter set to get thses 2 plastic clips. But when it came time to install the STS in my SRT-4, i did it in under an hour.

1991tercel
11-21-2007, 01:10 PM
For the price it is for a rebuild it is worth having someone do it if you have no idea what you are doing.
