Passlock problems

Just wanted to post my recent problem and repair. Have read of similiar complaints. 2004 Chevrolet Impala SS 69,110 miles. Security lite came on, then back off. Car would die going down the road. Upon turning the key to re-start vehicle, the car radio, enterior lights, etc. would work, but car would not start. At least right off. After a few minutes, sometimes several minutes, the car would start back up. Took car to the dealer, found code B2960 stored in computer. No other codes. Mechanic stated the passlock sensor was erratic, replaced passlock cylinder and re-programmed. Stated that this would fix the car from not starting, but should have nothing to do with the car dying going down the road. Indicated that there must be another problem. They never could get the car to die on them after replacing the passlock cylinder. All I know is that I never had problems with the car dying or not starting until I got the Security lite on. Have had the car now for almost two weeks, seems to be doing fine. Knock on wood. Cost $448.83

Uhhh well they do have a point about the car not starting due to pass lock. To be honest, I agree with them in terms of you driving down the road and the car turning off. it has nothing to do with pass lock. However, if there was loose wiring in the ignition switch, it might have done that. My car has randomly stalled while driving once or twice. It's never done it again.

I have a 2004 impala 63000 miles, security light came on stayed on until I turned the car off. Started the car up light was off, now! Two days later the car would not start.
(I chose not to jump star). This happened at a well know gas station. Thank goodness I’m a regular and an employee who owns the same car told me it’s a passlock problem and not to call a tow truck the car will start in about ten min. this has been his method for the pass two years.
Cut the car off, unlock car with key alarm (not on the door) look for blinking light on radio to come on, get out, shut door, wait for light to blink again, lock the car with key alarm, look for blinking light, if you see the light blinking you will be able to start the car when you return. Also change battery in alarm for stronger signal. I have always driven Chevy, when this car is done that’s it for me. I’m not sure if this is Chevy or GM responsibility at any case Chevy has not owned up to the problem. In my book they are now a rip off.
I have printed 200 copies of this issue and every time I see an impala parked I stick one the windshield. (Hospital employee) one day someone came to my office and thanked me for the heads up at some point in time he experienced the passlock nightmare, and saved money on battery, starter, alternator ect. So, please call Chevy with this problem.

You guys should try to bypass the passlock system by installing a resistor in the wiring off of the ignition. I did it a few weeks ago and haven't had a problem with no starts or security lights. Took me awhile to get the right resistance reading and get everything in since I was working alot but it's well worth the time.
