My friend has a 1997 single cam SL.
He swaped it recently with a 2000/1 dual cam SL.
Its been down for 4 weeks now so im going to ask the pros.
motor is good. Fireing correctly. compression is good. security system has been fixed.:disappoin
it will run for 10-15 seconds with fuel down the intake.
theres a fuel problem. upon starting with the key it will fire for exaclty 1 second with a hotwired fuel pump. i think there is too much feul pressure and locking the injectors shut.:banghead: The diffrences between the motor is the old had a return feul line, the new motor appears to be returnless. so he changed the fuel pump and grabed the stuff off the new tank but im not sure how its suposed to go together. I dont know what the regulator looks like or how its going to bee hooked in the old gas tank. pictures on what goes where would help greatly. I told him to hook the fuel pump to the back harness but then the pump wont turn on. we've cwitched out relays but am getting new ones to double check. isnt the new computer supposed to control and regulate fuel pressure. runaround ANY advise would be greatly appreciated because i dont know anything about how a saturn works. :icon16:

we pulled the same pcm form the same car as the motor, althought the motor was an outomatic and so is the pcm. the car its in now is a standard. could this be a problem? we changed the wireing harness as well.

I just learned the fuel filter is thew regulator. with that in mind we changed the filters tot he new one. Im not sure how the fuel lines are supposed to go because they have been cut by the motor and fuel pump.
I hooked the middle line that is the main line to the middle of the filter, the other fuel line for the return and the evap line open.. on the motor the evap line on the back bottom side was open. there was some lines open on the evap can in the from bumper. again no success. i switched the evap line and return line just to be sure they weren't cross already, no such luck.
in the morning i think we plan to head to the junk year and either buy or draw down the evap and fuel lines and they way the hjook up.
where do ii need to plug the evap if i want to eliminate it/?
Side note. the Relay under the hood next to the battery that is black is labeled DRL. what is that because it clicks like 20 times within 10 seconds when the key is turned. we've switched the relay, they all do it.

Try Saturn Fans forum. Lot's more people there that do these swaps.

i second checking the Saturnfans forum.
i don't think reusing fuel lines that have been cut is a good idea.
to confirm, the 97 does use a return line and 98 and up is returnless. the return style has a feed, return, and evap lines. returnless uses just a feed and evap line. the returnless may also have the evap canister next to the fuel tank, i can't remember, but it shouldn't be hard to make the in-fender canister work. i suggest geting the proper lines from a junkyard or dealership instead of modifying the worng ones.
do not plug the evap lines, it is an emission control system and there is a risk of an unsafe build-up of fuel vapors.
DRL is Daytime Running Lights, its what turns your highbeams on dimmy when your lights are turned off. for now ignore it or remove it. the only side effect of it being remove is you will lose one of your high beams.
