Yep, 11.5x26-16s. It's not enough in 1st gear, but it usually hooks up in 2nd.

Im not getting into that and im not going to start with you agian. You show me something that impresses me or other wise don't try to make me sound stupid. Im smart enough not to fall into that and if i did i could get myself out with no problem.

Scott what the hell are you talking about. I'm asking a question not trying to argue. In fact I was trying to ask treynor or whoever would know the answer to my question like Viper 10, or another viper owner.
Also with that kind of power and slicks, does your car do wheelies treynor?

Nope, chassis doesn't transfer enough weight for that. It just spins 'em off the line, and through 2nd if I'm on the bottle.

Is using it properly the only case? I thought there was more to it then that. Is it possibly independent rear suspension and a lot of torque = little traction?
The Chevelle SS with the ls6 454 put out around the same power as a Viper, if not more torque, and I never heard of it having traction problems. But that had the stiff rear in the back, I think it was a 12 bolt as well.

Oh well. At least he's doing a lot better than the average teenager. No matter what car it is.. it's still pretty cool to be able to take down them Vipers.

I just noticed this on your website and again I have another question, sorry if I'm asking too many.
"Complete Custom Wheels drag slicks / skinnies package (11.5x26x16 M/T ET Streets) "
Aren't ET Streets similar to slicks but with a little bit of tread on them? Why aren't you using a straight drag slick?

With a 1.8 60' time, im pretty sure thats on slicks, right? What do stock Viper's run out of the factory on street tires?

Right, I use ET streets because (a) they're legal to drive on the street and (b) they don't make ET drags in the size to fit the Viper.
FWIW too, I've run 1.8 60's on the stock street tires. It takes some practice, but it's quite doable.

Street tires as in BFG drag radials, i have them on all fours. I know its stupid but you cant cruise around with 22in slicks.

If youre getting 1.8's on street drag radials, I wanna see what your 60 foot is on slicks. I read that your car is put up for the winter so ill wait till spring, if I remember about this thread.

oh you will. yes my car is up for the winter. But you see i dont go to the track much. I went once and that is where i got my 1.8 times. But hopefully i will do it on slicks. dont worry i will keep ou posted. peace

vipers suck. 8.3 liters for 500HP wow nice engine. And don't say "u cant handle the power" b/c those guys who can handle the power spend hours working on handling these bad suspensioned cars that probable cost around $20g to make

i have a 1969 buick riviera with a 455 (rocket) that will make any viper look like it's standing still.i think when bill gates said that the auto industry has not advanced enough he was right on the button.my car is 36 years old and has more capabilty to produce more horse power than most 2005's.

Cars made in 2005 have to comply with emissions and safety regulations on a level not like that of 1969 cars.
Can your 1969 Buick make close to 1,000 hp?

The 455 rocket(7.5 L)
10.625 in(269.9mm) deck height
3.0 in(76.2mm) main journal
4.126 in(104.8mm)bore
4.25 in(107.9mm)stroke
output range from 210 to 400 hp(156-298 kw)
that is factory nothing done to modify it.
These engines, while being a wedge-head had a unique combustion chamber that resulted from a valve angle of only 6 degrees. This very open and flat chamber was fuel efficient and had lower average emmissions. It was the only"GM" engine to meet U.S emissions standards using a carburetor all the way to 1990.Seeing that my car is really dual exaust unlike alot of new cars made to look like they are,add two cadalatic converters and the emissions are pretty much up to par.But since you like 1000hp i would need to straight pipe it.Now let's make a recipe.add one 400 hp 455 ci engine than add straight pipes, than add a super charger, cams, bore it out and add larger pistons, throw in another charburator for flavour. For the outside of our tasty treat we'll add light aluminum rims for our front tires and for our rear posi trac tires. With this recipe it should make your 1000 friends happy.
p.s i have seen a shylark gs with a camed up 455 rocket that had to be chained to the frame as not to rip off the mounts, show me a new car that can do that and i will eat my own words. have a good one

I love the old engines as much as anyone, but they've come a long way since the old days. Of course the 455 is capable of producing more power than most other cars on the road. It's capable of big power because of its displacement. That's not a secret. The auto industry has known how to make big power for a long time now, but the old engines don't run nearly as clean or as consistent as new computer controlled engines. How often do you drive a modern car and think "Oh shoot it's running too rich, I need to get out and adjust it"? Never. No matter what the weather, altitude, time of day, the mixture and timing are spot on.
Also, I really doubt a 69 Buick with an unmodified 455 is going to make a Viper look like it's standing still. I've driven my fair share of old cars in my family including a 67 Chevelle 396/375hp, 69 Camaro 350/350hp, and a 67 Buick GS400, and none of those cars would break a 14sec quarter. The new Viper does it in about 11.7. Late 60's GM A-bodies weigh over 3800lbs, so it would take a Buick that was a dedicated track car (chassis modification, tubbed with slicks) in order to get down in that territory.

My buddy with his 10.5 tire Mustang, turbo small block 347 is consistant in the 8.30 range and has seen 7's a few times. This is the 1/4 I'm talking about on a small block Ford motor. dam..... 347, to your 455 rocket. Go Ford! anyhoo, in order to keep cars passing emissions, there will always be a stopping point in design. the automotive industry HAS advanced! Look at Top Fuel. ummmm............. can we get any faster on a V8? Normal production vehicles are designed keeping emissions in mind and that is a major factor in the progress of technology. There are also quite a few people who want to have somewhat decient gas mileage, no matter what car, and this is a factor in the motor's design. Bill gates was just probably trying to marked a product to the automotive industry and that is why he made that comment. He is a computer nerd and was probably talking about hybrid technology, not horsepower....
