Radio dimming out

i just noticed today that my radio display is dimming out...i was fairly sure it was the battery..very well could still be. however, it ended up fixing itself after sitting for a lil bit, then dimmed out again...then i had to punch it in traffic and it somewhere along the line brightened back up. now...oh yeah, its dim again. with everything else that is wrong with this pos chevy the radio is one of the only aspects i like...so im going to be pissy if it goes out lol. honking horn/turning on dome light/putting in bass heavy cd didnt make it dim out again once it had brightened back up...any ideas?

It's probably the lamp that backlights the radio LCD display. Like any lightbulb, it can burn out over time. Many times the filiment brakes contact intermittently where it is soldered to the bulb itself. As you hit a bump or jar the radio, it springs back and catches, only to disconnect again when you hit another bump.
